Varna correspondent
VARNA - The Varna -Goshen
combined church service held in
Varna on Sunday was led by Rev.
Wilena Brown, opening with the
call to worship and prayer. She'ex-
pressed how happy she was to be
hack in Varna -Goshen and she wel-
comed Miriam DeRivers. Scripture
readings were read by Heather
I3cierling and Graham Keys. Rev.
Brown brought her puppets 'Tevcy
and Bclah" hack to visit for the
Children's Story, which brought
hack many find memories. An in-
strumental duct with Anna Keys on
the piano and granddaughter Erin
on thc clarinet playing "Living in
the Light" was presented for Miri-
am DeRivers during the offering.
The sermon was "In the Garden of
Change" followed by the hymn
"Spirit of ObIJ Descend Upon My
Heart" and prayers of the people. A.
vocal solo was sung by Willi Lau-
rie, entitled "Friends". Following
the benediction, Linda Linfield
thanked Brown and DeRivers for
coming and presentations were giv-
en. Howard Armstrong presented
DeRivers a gift on behalf of the
Goshen congregation, Helen Keys
on behalf of the Goshen U.C.W.,
Carol Simons on behalf of the Var- .
na congregation and Deb Rathwell
on behalf of the Varna U.C.W. and
Joe Laurie on behalf of the Varna -
Goshen Sunday School. Lunch and
fellowship followed.
Thursday, April 18, Goshen
U.C.W. will meet at the Bluewater
Rest Home for the residents' birth-
day party.
Saturday, April 20 the Huron
Centennial Public School Parents
Committee are having a fundraiser
auction at the Varna Complex.
Tickets are S9 each and include a
cold buffet following the. auction,•
door prizes and a silent auction. It
starts at 7 p.m. and tickets can be
purchased by contacting June at the
school.
Sunday, April 21 the church ser-
vice for Varna -Goshen will be held
in Goshen with coffee hour at 9:30
a.m. Rev. Willy Ziegler will lead
thc service at 10:30 a.m. On Sun-
day, April 28 a service will be held
at Goshen with Jane Kipfer con-
ducting the service. This is desig-
nated us Camp Sunday, and mem-
iiers' are 'reminded' to bring :their
Canadian Tire money , kw: Camp
Menesetung.
Monday, April 22 at 6:30 p.m.
the Huron -Perth Presbyterial April
Event is planned at the Mitchell
United Church. The theme will be
"Declare His Work with Rejoic-
ing."
The Five Alive Committee is
planning to "Raise the Roof With
Laughter" at the Kippen Church. on
Sunday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. It
will be a fun -filled evening with
special musical guests and other
surprises. The offering will go to
the school house roof in Bluelields,
Nicaragua. A social hour will fal-
low.
Thursday, May 2 at 8 p.m. neigh-
boring U.C.W.'s are invited to join
the Varna U.C.W. for their Easter
thankoffering with guest speaker to
be Jesse Davidson's mother.
Canoe rally postponed
The canoe rally was cancelled
last Sunday and rescheduled for
Sunday, April 21 with registration
to begin at 11:30 a.m.

fore there was a singles tournament
with handicaps given accordingly:

Hayter for the 'A' division' and
Helen Pepper for the 'B' division
were also presented with prizes.
A crokinole party followed at the
church. Door prize winners were
Pat Taylor, Bertha Taylor, Barry
Taylor, Bernice Reid, Joan Beier -
ling, Alec Ostrom,.Meghan Hayter
and Dave McChire. Crokinole
players will meet again in October.
Seniors prepare for Tri County games
EXETER - Exeter Seniors held
their regular meeting on April 2 at
6 p.m. at the Legion Hall. Grace
was sung and all enjoyed a pot luck
supper. President Marion Prayne
opened the regular meeting with 0
Canada followed by the Lords
prayer. Prayne then read a poem
called Spring.
Birthday greetings were sang to
Chris Philips, Charlie Rollings,
Mary Roessel, Luella Taylor and
Eldon Heywood.
Anniversary greeting were sung
to Charlie and Eileen Rollings.
Minutes of the last meeting being
February as March meeting was
cancelled because of weather. Min-
utes approved as read.
Treasurers report given moved to
be accepted as read seconded by
Ken Ellis. Bingo for Villa for
month of April: Jean Noels, Ber-
nice and Hubert Cooper. Elmira
Ford.
Lois McFalls told of a bus trip to
London races on April 5 leaving
Exeter Legion at 5 p.m. If anyone
is interested phone McFalts.
Ways and means committee held
three door draws, winners where
Gerald McFalls, Bea Ballantyne
and Ruby Beavers.
June Hodgson gave a report on
Tri County Sports this year. Exeter
is hosting the games. Anyone 55
years of agc by December 31195 is
classed as a senior. To play you
need an affiliation card which can
be purchased at the Rec Centre
mornings only 10 a.m.' till noon or
by calling 235-2194. June is the
month for games.
Games consist of carpet bowling,
ctlbbage, crokinole, shuffleboard,
bridge, solo, euchre, snooker,
swimming, horseshoes, 5 pin bowl-
ing. darts, walking. ladies and mens
golf and tennis.
The program committee had a
delightful evening. Charlie Roll-
lings was master • of ceremonies.
Rollings told a few stories and read
some poems. Bob Heywood played
and sang several numbers. Josh
Heywood gave a speech on auc-
tioning which he has received sev-
eral awards. Eric Knits, Marlene
Mathers and Bill Rowe played sev-
eral numbers and sang. The group
wish to thank all those who enter-
tained and all committees for a
lovely evening. President Marion
Prayne closed the meeting with
prayer.

Darts at the Legion.

snooker, 7 p.m. Euchre at Legion.
Monday, May 6: Carpet howling
9 a.m. at the Youth Centre.
Tuesday May 7: Crokinole.

volunteer Grand Bend yard sale
moving set for May 4-5 weekend
HLNSALL - Queensway Nursing
Home residents started their week
off by exercising body and mind at
a Fun and Fitness session.
Re\. Dean of Exeter Pentecostal
hurch led a worship service Tues -
ay afternoon. Residents enjoyed
faits piano accompaniment as they
sung the hymns.
Wednesday morning several resi-
clenws gathered for. Breakfast Club.
lit the afternoon a time of visitation
and music appreciation took place.
.•Thursday evening diners feasted
on a roast beef dinner and stayed to
watch a video "Natural Wonders of
the World." Winnie Hutton, Pasto-
ral Cale volunteer was in to see res-
idents Thursday afternoon.
Manicures, aromatherapy and
massage tilled Friday for several
residents.
Long-time volunteer Elva Forrest
will he moving. Several volunteers
t tended- a farewell dinner in her
fnor at Millingtons in Brucefield
Ftiday evening. Residents wish her

Annual reports were given by
l'sccretary, treasurer and co-
)Iordinator. The District's report on

was given by Dorothy Restemayer.
TI Members were thanked for the

GRAND BEND - A large-scale
efitut to clean out the basements of
the collective community is being
organi,cd for the first weekend in
Ntay in the village of Grand Bend.
The hirst Annual Merchants and
Community Wide Yard Sale on
May 4 and 5 kicks off a month tra-
ditionally known for yard sales and
provides an opportunity to gather
the community for a, single pur-
pose. There's ample opportunity to
find a piece of furniture to adorn
your cottage or a china teacup to lit
perfectly into your grandmother's
collection because the yard sale be-
gins at8a.nm.and ends at4p.m.
Organized by village merchants,
the event will concentrate on three
train thoroughfares - Ontario Street
(Highway 21), Main Street and 81
Crescent. (Main Street will look
beautiful with new cobblestone ac-
centing the sidewalk.
Homeowners are welcome to
take advantage of greater visibility
00 these streets and ask a merchant
or permission to set up a few tables
al their place of business (at no
charge) or set up on their Own prop-
erty and attract visitors with proper
signage. (Homeowners are •asked to
set up tables Only on the north side
of 81 Crescent.) Merchants will
conduct their own version of the
yard sale by offering specials and
discounts.
The merchants' yard sale com-
mittee operates under the auspices
of the Grand Bend and Arca Cham-
ber of Commerce. For more infor-
