The Exeter Curling Club hosted their last bonspiel recent-
ly. Winners of the mixed teams inter -club championship

Two Bluewater bowlers narrowly
miss Ontario singles cutoff

TORONTO - Bluewater 5 Pin
Bowlers' Association's Leslie Sid-
dail, Molesworth, and Norm Wild-
ing, Clinton, just missed the cutoff
in the first tive games of the Onta-
rio Five Pin Bowlers' Association
(O.F.P.B.A.) Ontario Open ladies
and men's division singles by sev-
en and six pins respectively at To-
ronto Wednesday. The ladies cutoff
score was 1,185 (a 237 per game
average) while the men had to beat
a 1,260 pinfall (1 252 per game av-
erage) to advance to the finals.
Goderich's Dennis and Shirley
Schmidt, Lucknow's Eric Taylor
and Mount Forest's Karen Rave
finished further down the list in the
singles.
Bluewater's ladies and men's
teams, each finished with quite re-
spectable 35.5 points during the
match play in their respective divi-
sions while the Bluewater mixed
team struggled with 19.5 points in
its division against Ottawa Valley,
Maple Hills, Central Ontario,
Grand River and 1000 Lakes.

LUCAN - The 14th annual Sham-
rock Open bowling tournament was
held at Lucan Lanes on Easter Sat-
urday, April 6. A total of 36 bowl-
ers were competing for cash and
merchandise prizes in this five
game, pins over average tourney.
Coming in first overall was Pete
Smith from Lucan who bowled a
whopping 1349, which was 209
pins above his 228 average. His
five games were 208, 236, 338, 310
and 257. Placing second was Jeff
Vanhaarlem of London, who fin-
ished with a total of 1158, 193 pins
over his. average of 193. Paul Boyd
from St. Marys, came in third with
a total of 1177, plus 187. Dave

and a total of 1238 for the five
games. Rounding out the top five
finishers, with a plus 141, was Dar-
lene Wood of St. Marys and a total
of 1101. The five high singles of
the day, without handicap, were
Bob Smith 362, Pete Smith 338,
Dave Smith 314, Darlene Wood
306 while Bill McDonald and Paul
Boyd tied at 301. Special thanks to
all the local and area businesses
who donated prizes for this tourna-
ment.
A scotch doubles tournament, in
which the male bowls the odd
frames and his female partner
bowls the even frames, was held
the previous Saturday'. Results are
as follows: first, Bill Dixon and
Cheryl Smith with a total of 1120
for five games; second, Laurie
McGee and Mary Lee, 1039 and
third, Bill Mathers and Pat Rim-
mer, 1039. Winning high single
games were Bill and Cheryl, 250,
