Oddfellows celebrate 25 years

1871. Guests were, escorted to the
head table by Brother 'Fred ' Del -
bridge.
Master of Ceremonies for the
evening was Brother 'Bob Hey-
wond,. who kept the group laughing
all . evening with his stories, jokes
and one liners. After his words of
welcome, a toast to the Queen and
grace, they enjoyed a roast beef
dinner, served by the Elimville
United Church Women.
Head table guests included Ben
Hoogenboom, mayor of the Town
of Exeter and his wife Susan;
Brother Wm. Young, D.D.G.M. of
Huron District #8 and his wife Mar-
ion; Brother Harold Parsons, Noble
Grand of Exeter Lodge #67 and his
wife Phyllis; Brother Bob Hey -
wool, Master of Ceremonies and
his friend Martha Dutton; Sister
Mavis Atthill, Noble Grand of
Pride of Huron Rebekah Lodge
#338 and her husband Charles; Sis-
ter Erma Cartwright, D.D.P. of HtI-
ron Rebekah District #23 and her
husband Don. These guests were
introduced by Brother Fred Del -
bridge.
Letters of congratulation were re-
ceived from Paul Steckle M.P. and
Helen Johns, M.P.P.• and read by
Brother Bob Heywood.
One of the highlights of the eve-
ning was the presentation of a 50=
year pin to Brother Ross Francis by
D.D.G.M. Wm. Young. Brother
Francis's family were present to
witness this presentation. Musical
entertainment was provided by Sis-
ter Jean Hodgert and Brother Ray
Cann. A singsong was led by
Brother Bob Heywood.
Toasts were presented by Broth-
ers Fred Delbridge, Ray Cann, Ge-
rald McFalls and D.D.G.M. Wm.
Young. Addresses were delivered
by Ben Hoogenboom, John Broad -
foot P.G.M., D.D.G.M. Win.
Young, D.D.P. Erma Cartwright,
N,G. Mavis AtthiIl, and N.G. Har-
old Parsons.
Dignitaries recognized from the
audience were: Brother' John
Broadfoot, Sister Marjorie Broad -
foot, Brother Tom Smith, Sister Vi
Higgs, Sister Lois McFalls, Brother

Brother Bruce Delbridge intro-
duced the history of Exeter -Lodge
#67, copies of which were provided
to anyone who wished them.
Winners of the'Share the Wealth
draw were: first, Ray Cann; second,
Don Heywood; and third Russell
King. For the remainder of the eve,
ning, they danced and listened to
the music of the Royalaires. The
evening was video-taped by Broth-
er Dan Smith.
Green pickup begins in Hensall
KIPPEN - Kippen East W.I. 'met
at the home of Dorothy Bell Tues-
day, March 26. Grace Drummond
was co -hostess and ten members
answered the roll call with their fa-
vourite part of the Mary Stewart
Collect. After the Opening Ode
and Collect. Drummond _read a
poem on March. The Slice of Hu-
ron will he held in Seaforth, April
9-12 with the Open House Night
April 11. ,
Preparation plan~ were discussed
for the District Annual, hosted by
Kipper to be held on May 16 at
Brucclicld United Church. The
theme is "Lets Communicate".
Phyllis Parsons introduced the
guest shaker Nancy Cleave, of
Nancy's Fixin's who gave the
,roup some ideas on how to dress
up their windows and bring ou; cur-
tain colour in cushions and throws,
to tic decorating schemes together.
She was thanked by Rena Caldwell.
Mona Aldcrdicc read "The Blue-
bird" and Helen MacLean stumped

The service at Hensall United
Church opened with people carry-
ing palm fronds, the singing of
"Hosannah, Loud Hosannah",
Prayers for Worship and Approach
and the Lord's Prayer: "Open My
Eyes That I May See" was sung
followed by the Prayer of Confes-
sion and Words of Assurance. The
presentation of Blue Fields dona-
tions was made. Words of wel-
come and everyone greeting pre-
ceded the children's - hymn and
story, "Learning the Hard Way".
The choir sang the anthem and the
New Testament reading was done
by .the Preszcator family, Darryl,
Tammy, Amber and Megan. Rev.
Henry's message was "1 Was
There", and "How Sweet the Sound
of Jesus" was sung. George Parker
and Ross Kercher took the offering
followed by the Doxology and
Prayer. Greeting the worshipers
were the Preszcator family.
The Thursday Afternoon Ladies
met April 4 at 2 p.m.
There will be a special commun-
ion service April 4 at 7:30 p.m. and
a remembrance Service- April 5 at
10 a.m. There will be a Sunrise
Service April 7 at 7 a.m. followed
by a bacon and egg breakfast and a
service of "Joy and Celebration" at
10 a.m. •
To place Easter flowers in the

3411. Remember the Annual Beef
supper April 24. Call Marg for
tickets at 262-2304. Junior Choir
practice will be after school on
Wednesday.Bring non-perishable
food items for the Food Bank to
church on Sunday. "Sharing Time"
leading to confirmation will be held
immediately after church. Bible
study will be held Tuesday, April 2,
1:30-3 p.m. Presbytery Prayer Re-
quest: Zurich and Dashwood. It is
now time to prepare small craft
items for the Spring Yard Sale.

in Hensall. Green waste includes
grass clippings, garden waste,
branches and, trimmings. Material

Two area couples married 60 years
USBORNE TWP. - Back in
1936, Rev. Charles Lewis of Kirk -
ton was a busy fellow at the
end of March and early in
'April.
That's when he presided
at the weddings of two
area couples. Both have
been good friends over the
years and celebrated their
60th wedding anniversaries this
past weekend.
On April 4. 1934 Rev. Lewis
united in marriage Lorne Marshall
and Muriel Robinson at the bride's
home in Blanshard township.
Starting out in married life, the
young couple farmed for a
short time on the Marshall
homestead in
.�. Usbome town-
ship now oc-
cupied by a
nephew David Mar-
shall. Shortly thereafter
the Marshall's moved to London
where Lorne worked at Central Air-
craft during the war years.
From 1945 to 1959, Lorne and
Muriel operated the general store at
Kirkton. Following the store busi-
ness, Lome worked with the Onta-
rio Ministry of Agriculture as a
,Dairy Herd Improvement inspector
covering all of Westem.Ontario,
About 14 years ago the Mar-
shall's moved to their present home
in Exeter on Carling street. An
Open House was held for the
couple on Sunday at the Lions
Youth Centre in Exeter.
They have four children. Bill and

Young people from across mid-westem Ontario came to the Brussels Branch of the Royal
Canadian Legion, March 24, to compete in the district public speaking contest. Nineteen

Ron are high school teachers at
Medway and Kitchener, respective-
ly; lob is a recreation director in
l3oderich and daughter Linda is
married to OPP officer Michael
Byrne who is stationed at Mount
Forest. There are 10 grandchildren.
A week earlier in 1936, Rev
Lewis was the minister for the
wedding of .Grace Gallop and
Lorne Hodge. The wedding was
solemnized at the home of the
bride's mother at Russeldale.
For the first 12 years of their
married life, the Hodge's farmed in
the Staffa area.. In 1948 they took
over a general store in Crediton
and started a plumbing and heating
business. In 1972 it was off to Wat-
ford and the operation of a hard-
ware store until 1987 when they
moved to their present home in Ex
eter.
They have two sons, Bob, an'
OPP officer stationed at Lucan and
Murray, now of Grand Bend who
continued the hardware store busi-
ness in Watford until about a year
ago. Lorne and Grace have one
grandchild.
While in Crediton, the couple
was very involved with the Credi-
ton United Church and Mrs. Hodge
holds a life membership with the
Crediton Women's Institute.
An Open House to celebrate the
Hodge's 60th wedding anniversary
was held Saturday at the Crediton
Community Centre.
Alcohol
contributes
to serious
accident
USBQRNE TOWNSHIP - Two
people were taken to hospital.and
requited treatment for injuries after
an eastbound vehlcie failed to yield
and "t -boned" a southbound vehicle
on Friday at approximately 7 p.m.
on Sideroad 5-6 at Concession 2-3.
According to police, alcohol '
was a contributing factor in the ac-
cident and one driver was charged
with driving with excess blood al-
cohol level.
