Huron Board
calls for
single school
system in
postcard
campaign
CLINTON - The Huron County
Board of Eduction is initiating a
postcard campaign during the
month of April that calls for public
support of the recommendations
for education finance reform in the
Sweeney report and the need for a
single school system under one
governance body.
The campaign, Save the Huron
Public Education System, circulat-
ed 20,000 postcards throughout the
county, to be returned to Huron
MPP Helen Johns in support of ed-
ucation finance reform but against
amalgamation with Perth County.
The board calls for a new "Com-
munity Education Authority" to
govern all public education in Hu-
roo.
"We agree a with the need for ma-
jor reform of education finance yet
we doubt the necessity for broad
geographic restructuring as the es-
sential means of reducing non -
classroom spending," states the
board's response to The Ontario
School Board Tast Reduction Force
eport.
