It would have been difficult for Stephen to come back from a two game deficit. "The series was a lot closer than it looked," he added. Thompson said the team leaders have come to the forefront making 'their presence felt among the team. Everybody has stepped up their level of play and Thompson feels they are ready for the AII-Ontario finals, or what the players refer to as "the show." This is the second consecutive year both the Stephen Atoms and the Peewees laced their skates up for a provincial title. A remarkable feat in itself, however, bringing home two On- tario Championships for the second time in as many years would be a rare historical moment. V'ith both teams preparing to repeat history, Thompson said the:; piaye , are taking it in stride and'are having fun aing the way. "There's always going to be a little bit of pressure to win when you're playinghockey this late in the season, but it's not showing," he said. f games to oust Seaforth EXETER - It took seven games, but the Exeter Hawks finally clinched the Yeck Conference semi- finals beating Seaforth 4-1 in front of a capacity crowd at the South Huron Recreation Centre Fri- day night. The first goal of the game would be vital and Ex- eter knew the odds would be in their favor if they could get on the board first. Throughout the series Exeter has always played better when they've had the lead. After a scoreless fast period; Nathan Bums re- lieved the pressure for the Hawks notching tine first goal of the game on a powerplay. Sean Brown and Craig Corriveau followed suit adding one goal each. David Farquhar, younger brother of Steve Far- quhar called up from the junior ranks to fill in on the right wing, scored in the third period to even out the scoring at four. • Seaforth managed only one goal late in the sec- ond when a screened shot from the point•hit goalie David Nahrgang on the shoulder, bounced up and rolled into the net. Qame six in Seaforth Seaforth had their chance to win the series when they hosted Exeter in the sixth game on Wednes- day. Seaforth had won in Exeter 2-1 the night' be- fore and were leading the series three games to Ex- eter's two. Facing elimination, the Hawks rose to the challenge winning 7-4 forcing the seventh and final game. Shayne Robinson scored three goals for the hat trick including a short handed marker in the first period. Chris Kennedy, Brown, Burns and Cor- riveau also score for the Hawks. Head coach, Dave Revington credits Seaforth's gpalie and their team's determination for going the full length of the series, however, he feels the best team won. "if we would have lost to Seaforth the season would have been a major disappointment," said Revington. "We were able to handle them in the regular season," he added. • Eliminating Seaforth had a special meaning for Exeter goalie Dave Nahrgang who used to played for the Centennaires last year. He was instrumental in their demise shutting the door on his ex - teammates when he had the starting position in six games of the series. David Nahrgang is congratulated by a Sea - forth player after Friday night's game. Over 900 people flocked to the rec centre to see the Hawks play Seaforth in the final game of the series. "Those guys are still my friends but it sure feels nice to beat them," said Nahrgang. "I've never made it into the playoffs this far before...it sure is a rush." With the Seaforth:series now behind them, Exeter is preparing for the`Alf Optario semi-finals against Thamesford. The Hawks have only played them twice in the regular season winning both games by one point. Yet Revington isn't taking them lightly. "Thamesford is in a tough league and they have a tradition of winning. We know they are going to make things difficult but we'll adjust as we go along," he said. The Hawks hosted Thamesford on Tuesday night in the first game of the AII-Ontario Junior "D" semi-final series.
