Morgan's rink takes 'A' title in Curling Club Challenge EXETER - The Exeter Curling Club Challenge League playoff bonspiel was held Thursday night and Saturday at the Exeter Curling Club. The bonspiel consisted of an "A" draw involving the top eight teams from a 19 game regular season schedule. Twenty teams participate with the top 16 teams qualifying for the playoffs, including a "B" draw involving the ninth through 16th place teams. In the "A" draw, Scot Morgan's rink with vice John Coleman, 2nd Richard Miller and lead Sam Regi- er, scored three points in the final end to knock off defending cham- pion Doug Webber 5-4 in the championship game. John Smits, whose rink was the overall regular season winner, and who will organize the 1996-97 schedule and playoffs, finished third. In the "B" draw, Ralph As- tle's rink which finished 14th over- all in the regular season, upset Lar- ry Shapton 6-5 for the win, while John McNeilly cdged Phil Turner by half a point to finish third. Tournament organizers, Gerald McBride and the entire member- ship of the Exeter Curling Club credit the many sponsors for pro- viding the support they nceded to make this bonspiel a success.
