Stephen Atoms tied
with Cayuga in
semi-final series
CAYUGA - The Stephen Township Atoms split their series with
Cayuga losing the first game in Stephen before beating Cayuga on
the road in overtime.
Colin Sauder, Jesse Schroeder and Roman Wilson scored for Ste-
phen with assists going to Jason Stuckless, Jesse McCann and
Shawn Thompson. But Cayuga notched two more than Stephen
winning the first game of the six point OMHA semi-final series 5-3.
Knowing they couldn't afford to lose two straight, the Atoms re-
bounded in the second game in Cayuga with a 4-3 overtime win.
After trailing 3-27- late in the third period Schroeder scored the tieing
goal with only 50 seconds left on the clock. It was his second goal
of the game.
Stuckless notched the winning goal in overtime after he deked the
goalie on a clean breakaway. Scott Davies also scored for Stephen
and Wes Johnson, Ryan Knee, Corin Sauder, McCann, Schroeder
and Stuckless added assists.
Coach Bev Thompson said he expected a tough series against Ca-
yuga and that's exactly what he's getting. He said the key to win-
ning the series will be getting on the scoreboard first instead of
overcoming one or two goal deficits like they have in the first two •
games.
"We're going to have to score first. So far we've been playing
catch-up hockey."
Thompson knows his team has the talent to win and he's counting
on his team leaders to shine for the rest of the series. •
"If the boys work hard and the leaders come to the forefront we
can beat this team," he said. But he knows it's not going to lie easy.
"We are pretty evenly matched and it's going to he the little things
that count."
The Atoms hosted Cayuga in Stephen for game three on Tuesday.
Results were not known at press time.
Dane Michlelsen makes a save for the Stephen Township
Atoms during their first playoff game against Cayuga on
Saturday.
