Precious Bleed fundraiser
Zurich skaters perform at annual carnival
Toni D%ng was caught in action at Saturday's March
Break Kickoff at the South Huron Rec Centre. In addition
to a pie throwing contest, the Precious Blood School P.T.A.
fundraiser featured gold fish races, clowns, face painting,
Snake Lady WI! Williams and Mr. Monkey Belly and The
Amazing Eliff.
Davis earns fifth place

ed on the weekend in

SAINTSBURY - St. Patrick's
Morning Prayer service was held at
10:30 a.m., the fourth Sunday of
Lent, March 17. Rose Cunningham
led the service from the Book of
Alternative Services.
The service opened with the
hymn "Breathe on me Breath of
God". Rose Cunningham read the
scripture readings from the Old and
New Testaments, Responsive Read-
ing was Psalm 23. The Holy Gos-
pel was John 9:1-41. Suzanne Da-
vis gave an excellent message
based on the readings for the day.
Harley Davis took up the offer-
ing. The service closed with the
hymn "The Lord's My Shepherd".
Mary Davis provided the music
for the service.
Women stayed after the service
to set up for the Dessert Euchre.
March 24, the fifth Sunday of
Lent, St. Patrick's again will hold
their Morning Prayer Service at
10:30 a.m. Scripture readings are to
be Ezekiel 37:1-14, Romans 8:6-
11, Psalm 116:1-8, The Holy Gos-
pel John II: (1-16) 17-45.
Bob MacGillivray, Courtney, Ka-
tie -Scarlett, Caleb and Corbin visit-
ed on the weekend with mother Ste-
vie MacGillivray of Lions Head.
Hazel Davis attended the
Wednesday Lenten Service at St.
Pauls Cathedral in London and de-
livered items for Daily Bread.
Travis and Starr Davis visited
this week with Mary and Hub Thiel
of Zurich. Sarah Walker and Alai-
na Hern visited with Crystal Davis
during the winterbreak from
school.
Mary Davis was a guest along
with other friends on Friday at the
home of Agnes Hotson of Lucan to
honor Florence Hodgins on her
93rd birthday.
Congratulations to Harley Davis
on Saturday winning fifth place in
the 60 CC at Moreland Moto Cross
Raceway, Stanton, Michigan. Pop -
pa Hugh Davis accompanied Har-
ley and his dad Michael.
Prayers for good health go to
Ross McFalls from all his friends
at St. Patrick's and community.
Sincere sympathy from the Hod-
gins relatives of St. Patrick's and
area to the Schendera families in
their loss of a husband, father and
grandfather, Ted, who passed away
Friday, March 15 and whose funer-
al service was held Monday from
the C. Haskett and Son Funeral
Home in Lucan.

celebrated his birthday on the

ZURICH - A meeting of the Blue
Water Rest Home Ladies Auxiliary
was held at the Home on March 5.
A musical program was present-
ed by Idella Gabel playing Irish
songs on the piano. Sisters Mo-
nique and Stephanie Gelinas sang.
President Donna Klopp chaired the
business 'and reported the Mother's
Day Tea will be at the Home
on May 11 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Anyone with crafts are welcome
to set up a table in the auditorium
to sell their articles. Phone Donna
if you are interested in doing so,
236-4675.
Quilt tickets are now available
from Marie Gelinas Sr. or Mary
Ducharme.
The next birthday party will be
on March 26 at 7 p.m., hosted by
the Dashwood Women's Institute.
The 'next meeting will be held on
April 2 with an Easter theme.
Hay Days hockey game
The Hay Days N.H.L. Oldtimers
will play at the Hensall Arena on
March 23 at 7:00 p.m. For tickets
or information phone Barb West-
lake -Power, 262-2812. A pre -game
exhibition of Hensall Minor Hock-
ey Tyke players will begin at 6:00
p.m. Skaters from the Zurich Fig-
ure Skating Club will be providing
entertainment between the second
and third periods.
Proceeds from this event will be
used for various projects and sports
in the Hensall area.
Free skating
The Optimist Club is sponsoring
free skating and treats for children
on March 20, today, at the Zurich
Arena from 2 to 4 p.m.
Agricultural Society
The Agricultural Society will be
holding their meeting at the Hay
Township Hall this Thursday at 8
p.m. Visitors are welcome to help
plan the next Zurich Fair in July.
Egg hunt
The Optimist Club are busy mak-
ing plans for their fourth annual
Easter Egg Hunt on April 6 at the
arena playground, beginning at

in this free, fun event.
Skating carnival
The•annual Zurich and Area Fig-
ure Skating Club carnival was a
success. The theme was "Holidaze
on Ice", with skaters dressed in
costumes representing various holi- _
days, New Years, Valentine's Day,
Ground Hog Day, etc.
Solo skaters were Shelley Miller
and Jeff Miller, Julie Semple, Sa-
rah -Rae Lovie and Krista Schilbe.
Master of ceremonies for this
event was Jim Chapman from
CJBK and Jody Durand of Zurich.
Several Sweeney relatives spent
the weekend at a get-together in
London to celebrate St. Patrick's
Day at a dance at the Knights of
Columbus Hall.
Cousins, aunts and uncles came
from Windsor, Detroit, Thedford,
Kitchener, Dornoch, London and
Zurich. Many stayed over to attend
Sunday brunch and finish visiting.
Besides enjoying the Sweeney
family reunion, Jerome and Carmel
and Jerome's sister Sharon attend-
ed a special Mass at St. Patrick's
Church in London with celebrant
Bishop John Sherlock. Irish music
was performed by members of the
parish who were originally from
Ireland.
Birthday cake and coffee was
served afterwards in the meeting
room as a surprise for the Bishop's
recent 70th birthday.
Corkey and Shirley Bedard of
Detroit spent a couple days last
week with his sister Beattie and
Clarence Geoffrey and all attended
the funeral of sister-in-law Joan
Bedard on March 14.
Mozart and Marie Gelinas Sr. at-
tended the wedding of their niece
Elaine Chirita on March 16 in St.
Marys. She is the daughter of
Yvonne and the late Earl Dietrich
of Exeter.
Several Zurich relatives of the
late Dennis Denomme attended his
funeral in Toronto March 13.
Eugene and Shirley O'Brien
spent the weekend with friends in
Fort Erie.
Rachel Simmone . Vanneste,
daughter of David and Sherri, was
baptized at St. Boniface Church on
Sunday by Fr. Wronski.
Don and Donna O'Brien returned
home recently from their winter va-
cation in Florida.
Their two granddaughters joined
them for the past couple weeks
while (heir mother, Pam, is away
visiting with her brother Brent
•O'Brien in Singapore. •
Ruth -Ann Flaxbard, London,
spent the weekend with her parents
Earl and Anne, and along with oth-
er family members, attended the fu-
neral of Gertie Fleischauer on Fri-
day.
UCW unit meets
EXETER - The afternoon unit of Exeter UCW met on March 14 with 29
members in attendance. Doris Denham opened the meeting with a poem
"Friendly Fruit".
A musical worship service. underthe direction of Marion Dearing, fol-
lowed. Call to worship, scripture, prayer and hymns of dedication and ado-
ration were done using singing and taped music.
Bible study on the bent -over -woman (Luke 13: 10-17) was given. The
women walked around the room bent over to appreciate the woman's
plight. They also identified with the bent -over woman as she represents all
oppressed people by helping each other stand erect we extend a helping
hand to others.
Elmira Ford and Doris Denham read scriptures identifying times when
Jesus had rebelled against petty rules of the synagogue. Discussion then
took place on the question "Are there rules in the church that need to
change?" Consensus seemed to be that some small things could change but
that our rules are very good.
The meeting closed with the UCW benediction and a St. Patrick's Day
lunch.

A Knights of Columbus meeting
was held at St. Boniface Parish
Hall on March 18 with District,
Deputy Bro. Ted Thuss attending.
Raffle tickets for a car are now on
sale from any K. of C. member of
Iohn Jacob, 236-4826.
Baseball registration
If any children missed signing up
for this summer's baseball pro-
gram, they can still do so by phon-
ing Shelley Geoffrey at 236-7258
as soon as possible. Coaches are
also needed.
Chamber of Commerce
The Chamber of Commerce held
their monthly dinner meeting at
March 19 at Erb's Country Kitchen
at 7 p.m. President Joan Cassidy
chaired the business, with speaker
Wayne Caldwell of Goderich.
Personals
Sincere sympathy goes to the
family of the late Joan Bedard,
who passed away on March 12;
and to the family of Gerrie Fleis-
chauer, who passed away suddenly
on March 12. She will be missed
by her many friends, as she was a
very well-known and active mem-
ber of the community. Sympathy
goes also to the family of Mrs,
Minderlein, who passed away on
March 16. She was a resident of
the Blue Water Rest Home.
