THAMES ROAD - Rev. Jim All-
sop was in charge of the Fourth
Sunday of Lent service on Sunday
morning at Thames Road United
Church.
After singing the Doxology, the
congregation read the responsive
reading from the service book,
"The Good Shepherd,", Psalm 23.
The choir sang "The Country
Chapel" accompanied by organist
Agnes Bray. Jessica Bray lit the
Christ candle.
They sang the children's hymn
"Put Your Hand in the Hand" and
Rev. Allsop told the children's sto-
ry "About the Blind Man Whom Je-
sus Healed."
Ray Cann and Jack Stewart re-
ceived the offering.
The Scripture Lesson from the
Old Testament I Samuel- 16:1-13
and from the New Testament Ephe-
sians 5:8-14 was read by Helen
Webber.
The Scripture Reading from the
Gospel of John 9:1-41 was read by
Rev. Allsop. The title of his sermon
was "Light for the Blind Eyes."
They sang the closing hymn "0

St. Patrick's
GRAND BEND - Ninety mem-
bers of the Golden Agers met for
the monthly luncheon and meeting
March 6.
To celebrate St. Patrick's Day the
Legion was decorated with Sham-
rocks and members of the group
were .decked out in green. On the
menu was Irish stew, biscuits, green
jello with cookies.
The entertainment was provided
by the local Kazoo Choral ensem-
ble and guest soloist Harriet Van-
derBurgt.

native of Pennsylvania, Washing-

a Congregational minister and
served churches in New York,
Massachusetts, and Ohio. A distin-
guished preacher, lecturer, and au-

Coming events
On Friday, March 29 a fun night
and organizational meeting is
planned at Thames Road from 7 to
9 p.m. for children in grades four,
five and six. The is the group be-
tween Messengers and Youth
Group. Participants are asked to

On Monday, April 1 a U.C.W.
meeting will be held at 8 p.m. with
Melonie Miller, Ruth Ann Osgood,
Pat Ballantyne and Beatrice Daw-
son on the program committee.
Groups U and C will provide
lunch. The group is entertaining
women from Centralia, Cromarty,
Elimville and Woodham.
On April 5 there will be a Good
Friday joint service at Elimville at

7:30 p.m.
On April 7 at Thames Road a
joint sunrise service is planned at
8:30 a.m. Breakfast will be served
from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with a
joint worship service at 11:00 a.m.
On April 10 a Rural Workshop
will be held at Wellburn United
Church and on April 24 at Watford
United Church from 10 a.m. to
3:30 p.m. The $10.00 registration
fee includes lunch. There will be
more information to follow.

Jeremy and Lesley Baxter of
Mitchell visited during the March
break with their grandparents Ken
and Dorothy Duncan and their un-
cle and aunt Don and Janis Rich-
ardson.
Bill and Rhoda Rohde had lunch
on Tuesday with Marguerite Gib-
son of London.
Dan Rohde and Nancy Blythe of
Oakville, Glenn and Marilyn Roh-
de were Saturday night supper
guests with Bill and Rhoda Rohde.
Helen Webber of Exeter, and
Mabel Hern of Zion attended the
funeral of their cousin, the late
Wallace Selves on Sunday at the
Lockhart Funeral Home, Mitchell.

CBN'IitAI.IA - On March 17, the U.C.W. led the
woiltip at Centralia United Church. Jean Caslick
opened the worship service, and Becky Harrett read
the scripture from Psalm 104. Faye Skinner involved
I the children and some adults in a story which illustrat-
ed trust. A Large choir of women blended their voices
together for the anthem "Fruits of Creation". Audrey
McFalls gave the sermon, and spoke about "Environ-
mental Love."
During a special presentation, Jean Caslick presented
Janet Hicks with a U.C.W. lifetime membership in rec-
ognition of her many years of membership and contri-
bution to the U.C.W.
Following worship, everyone enjoyed a potluck
lunch and fellowship downstairs where the room was
decorated for St. Patrick's Day.
On Sunday, March 24, worship will be held at Cen-
tralia at 10:00 a.m. and at Zion at 11:30 a.m. Follow-
ing a potluck lunch presented by the U.C.W. at Zio
United Church, Bev Robinson will present informatio
about the proposal for church renewal to the congrega
tion.
Upcoming activities
On Wednesday, March 21, at 2:30 p.m., everyone i
invited to participate in the worship service at Exeu
Villa.

At the euchre party in Crediton recently, High Han
winners were Nola Lewis and Percy Noels, while Er

Items sought for spring 'auction

planned for April 20 to'

Centennial School.

School Advisory Council is orga-
nizing their second annual Spring
Auction. The auction will be held
on Saturday, April 20, 1996, at
7:30 p.m. sharp at the Stanley Twp.
Complex in Varna. Viewing of the
auction items will begin at 6:00. A
$9.00 ticket includes a cold buffet
following the auction, auction an-
tics of Bruce Rathwell and Asso-
ciates and door prizes.
