Irish loseseries to Seaforth
Lucan Irish bow to Seaforth winning only one game in the series
LUCAN - The Lucan Irish have
been eliminated from their first
round of the Junior "D" playoffs
after losing a fourth game to Sea -
forth 8-4 Wednesday night.
Steve Hudson scored two goals in
the third period, including one from
a penalty shot, however, it wasn't
enough to bridge the gap, sending
the Irish to the showers for the last
time this season.
Dylan Lisk and Kevin Robson
also added goals.
The series got off on a bad note
right away for Lucan who lost the
first three games to Seaforth 6-2,
Steve Mathews takes control of the puck For the Lucan
Irish but the Irish couldn't control Seaforth allowing them
to take their series four games to one.
6-3 and 3-2.
They managed to stay alive in the
fourth game winning a lopsided
10-4 victory and looked as if they
had their scoring touch back again.
But mounting a comeback
seemed out of the question during
game five last Wednesday when
Seaforth went up by three goals
early in the first period.
"We sure didn't play with the fire
we had when we beat them 10-4,"
said coach Scott Bogart. "But it's
hard to comeback when you're
down three games."
Bogart isn't surprised by Sea-
forth's victory considering both
teams finished the regular season
with almost identical records. Only
three points separated the two
teams who finished second and
third in their division.
But he is surprised by his team's
lackluster performance.
"Going into the playoffs the guys
were ready and all systems were in
place and it all fell apart in days,"
he said.
Bogart thinks the first Toss in
game one affected them more than
he anticipated and from there it
seemed they couldn't get back on
track.
Technically, the Irish suffered a
defensive breakdown allowing too
many shots on net and special
teams failed, most noticeably on
their penalty killing unit which al-
lowed five power play goals last
Wednesday.
"You have to be at your best all
the time when your in the playoffs
and we didn't do the little things
you need to do to win," he said.
