In game two, Zurich took a com-
manding lead in the series with a 2-
0 victory. Goaltender John Miners
was there for the call, and gave a
great performance for the shutout.
Good checking and a stellar de-
fence, won the game on goals by
Alan Jeffrey and Mike Degroot
both unassisted.
Game three back in Zurich, was
again another tight checking con-
test, but Stephen came out on top
with a score of 2-0, the latter goal
going into an empty net.
Back in Huron Park for game
four was another exciting game as
the Thunder came up short by a
score of 4-3.
With Stephen ahead 1-0, Brad
Brown found the net to tie the score
at one. Jarrett Jeffrey assisted on
the play. Less than a minute later,
Mark Durand gave his team a 2-1
lead assisted by team captain Alan
Jeffrey. Stephen Township tied the
score with 4:24 remaining in the
second period sending the teams to
the dressing room, deadlocked at 2-
2.
In the third period, the home
team scored two goals to take the
lead 4-2, however a stubborn Zu-
rich team, did not give in as Bryan
Denomme, assisted by Chad Des-
jardine and Mark Durand made
way for an exciting finish, with five
minutes left in the game.
The Thunder continued to press
hard for the tying marker, but Ste-
phen goaltender, Joe Bierling re-
fused to be beat and made a great
save in the dying moments as Chad
Desjardine and Bryan Denomme
went in on a two man break.
The series was exciting to watch,
and every team member contribut-
ed in their own way.
The Zurich Thunder now ad-
vance to the O.M.H.A. semi-finals
in search of the All -Ontario Cham-
pionship.
Thunder now play Walpole Is-
land. Game one is set for Saturday,
March 16 in Zurich at 8 p.m. Game
2 is at Walpole Island on Sunday,
March 17 at 5:30 p.m., with the

Midget Generals ousted by Lambeth
Exeter. RSD Midget
Generals succumbed
to Lambeth losing
their playoff series in
four games.

EXETER - After beating them
twice in the preliminary round rob-
in, the Exeter Midget Generals lost
their playoff series against Lambeth
in faur games.
The loss came as a surprise to the
fans who watched the Generals
sweep Lambeth, Dorchester, For-
est and Strathroy in round robin
play after completing a highly suc-
cessful 10-5-5 season.
"The series was a real shootout,"
said coach Dave Dalrymple point-
ing out the high scoring in all four
games. Exeter won the third game
5-4, but lost game one, 4-1, game
two 8-6 and game four 7-6. "Both
sides had offensive power...it
could have been anybody's series,"
he said.
This was noticeable in the final
game with Exeter losing a close
game by one point in overtime;
and also in the fifth game when
they beat Lambeth by one.
Dalrymple credits three of Lamb-
eth's players for engineering Exet-
er's defeat. Dalrymple said the
three players have led their high
school team to OFSAA and their
success has spilled over to their
Midget team who had picked up on
their winning habits.
Likewise, Exeter has relied upon
three of their own players for most

losing three games to one.
of their points. Dave Farquhar,
Ryan Beckett and Ryan Freiter
have been the General's major
point getters in the Lambeth series
with Freiter and Beckett ac-
cumulating five points, and Far-
quhar notching six goals and three
assists.

STEPHEN.. TOWNSHIP - Last/ yeat. Stephen Township' Minor
Hockey enjoyed a remarkable season.
The Peewee "Rebels" and the Atom "Sonics" each brought home
Ontario Championships after they swept their opponents in three
games.
As slim as the odds may seem, it just might happen again.
This year, both teams are poised to repeat their performance and
claim two provincial titles for the second consecutive year.
The Stephen Peewees, beat Tiverton Thursday for the third and fi-
nal time to clinch the Western Ontario Athletic Association
(WOAA) championship setting the stage for a Stephen vs. Cayuga
rematch for the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) semi-
finals.
Last year Stephen beat Cayuga in the semi-finals and went on to
defeat Port Carling for the All -Ontario championship.
Stephen has already taken one game in the best of five series
slamming Cayuga 9-3 on Sunday. Jeff Finkbeiner scored five goals
and picked up one assist to put his team up by one in the series.
Teammates J.R. Davies, Cal deLange, Shawn
Sherwood and Brayden Lord 'added one goal
each.
Coach Les Sherwood is confident his team
can pull it off again but he isn't counting Ca-
yuga out too quickly.
"I think they will be able to get one back on
us," said Sherwood who credits his team's
discipline as the key to their success this year,
especially near the end of the regular season. "Our main strength is
our discipline. We don't spend a lot of time in the penalty box."
A smart team with a scoring touch is the wining recipe for the
Peewees. This was evident in their last game against Tiverton on
Thursday.
Brayden Lord led his team in scoring netting a hat trick and as-
sisting J.R. Davies on a pair of goals. Davies scored again before
the game was out for a hat trick of his own and Jeff Finkbeiner con-
tributed a goal midway through the game to round the score out 7-5.
The Atoms, by coincidence, are also playing Cayuga in the semi-
finals. They have just eliminated Keady in three games to claim the
WOAA final on the weekend.
Last year, the Atoms beat Ops Township twice at home before
taking the final game on the road to win the "E" championship. The
third game was a wild come -from -behind shootout that saw Stephen
overcome a four goal deficit in the third period to win the deciding
game.
Come from -behind -wins are something this year's Atoms have
specialized in as well.
They tied Keady in their third game after trailing 4-1 with only
eight minutes left to play, and then banged home the winning goal
in overtime.
Coach Bev Thompson is optimistic he will win his next series
against Cayuga; however, he isn't clearing a spot on his trophy case
yet.
"We still have a lot of winning left to do in the semi-finals," he
said. The Atoms will be well rested before they meet Cayuga in
game one and Thompson feels they will be ready.
The Atoms greatest strength is their offensive prowess. Five out
of his six forwards have scored 100 points so far this year with team
captain Scott Davies breaking 200 on the weekend.
/"We have a lot of guys who can score up front and they can't rely
do just shutting down one or two guys to beat us," he said.
Thompson isn't surprised both teams are retracing their footsteps
and is confident they both have the potential to go the distance.
The Cayuga teams will roll into Stephen Township on Saturday
for back-to-back Peewee/Atom games. The Atoms play tentatively
at 2 p.m. and the Peewees at 3:30. Both will travel to Cayuga on
Sunday.

ductive line throughout the
playoffs," added Dalrymple.
Ryan Soldan also chalked up four
points and defenseman Brian Rich-
ardson had two goals and one assist
while playing a very physical
game behind his own blue line.
Dalrymple said he was happy
with his team's performance, how-
ever, the players have taken the
loss to heart.
"They took it (the loss) pretty
hard at first," said Dalrymple. "We
worked hard and came close...but
11's always hard to lose a series in
overtime," he said.
