South Huron Drama department is entering their production of
'Blind Dates' in the Sears Ontario Drama Festival.
There are three levels to the festival; district festivals, regional
showcases and all -Ontario showcases.
South Huron is entered in the district festival at Listowel D.S.S.
on March 27 at 7 p.m. The tickets are $6 in advance and $7 at the
door. For advance tickets call (519) 291-1880. If they do well, they
may move on to the regional showcase.
There are 10 schools entered in the Listowel festival. This is
South Huron's second year in the festival. The real focus of the fes-
tival is not the competition but the chance to see a variety of great
theatre and meet new people. During the festival the students will be
going to workshops and learning new things from acting profession-
als.
Other performances will take place on March 29 and 30.
The play 'Blind Dates' by Anna Fuerstenberg is about the transi-
tion we all must move through from adolescence to adulthood. The
play is directed by one of the school's drama teachers, Beth Jantzi.
The cast consists of Toni Dejong, Liz Fitzgerald, Rayna Milne,
Brian Negrijn, Angela Pickering, Gavin Poole, Mike Schwindt,
Steve Sywyk, Jessica Verhoog, and Theresa Wilhelm. The crew
members are Stephanie Pearson, Justin Krziyzek and Shari Beier -
ling. The group has been rehearsing since the beginning of Febru-
ary.
We hope the community will support the school by coming to see
the play. If you are interested in going, I will be trying to organize a
car pool. You can call the school at 235-0880 and leave a message
in the office. I will get hack to you. I hope lots of people will show
their support.
Best of luck to Ms. Jantzi and the cast and crew of 'Blind Dates'.
We know you will do South Huron and Exeter proud.

Ambulance calls compromised
by striking dispatchers
ZURICH - An agreement reached
between the Government of Onta-
rio and the Ontario Public Service
Employees Union designates ambu-
lance dispatchers as Essential Ser-
vice employees. The agreement re-
quires most dispatchers to work
through a strike. However, it allows
them to refuse requests for routine,
non -urgent calls.
"Because the dispatch is in that
strike position, unfortunately we
can't provide the services to the
community", says Brad Lucas,
owner/operator of Zurich Ambu-
lance Services and Seaforth/Clinton
Ambulance Services.
Although we are ready to respond
to these regular, low priority calls,
it will be impossible as the law pro-
hibits the movement of an ambu-
;pnce except under the direction of
dispatcher.•We want the public to
" know that we are legally prohibited
from accepting direct calls for ser-
vice. Unfortunately, we are limited
in our ability to serve the communi-
ty as a result of the effect of the
strike.
Emergency calls and booked
medical transfers should occur as
normal.
For further information, contact
our services at 519-237-3770
(Hoffman Ambulance administra-
tion) 519-236-4928 (Zurich Ambu-
lance administration) or the Ontario
Ambulance Operators' Association
at 519-785-0318.
Church of God women
host World Day of Prayer
Roberta Walker
GRAND BEND - The women's
group from the Church of God
hosted the World Day of Prayer
services in Grand Bend this year,
held on Friday, March 1 at 2 p.m.
Millie Desjardine welcomed all
those who attended, and Morley
Desjardine provided the organ mu-
sic to accompany the hymns. Par-
ticipants from local churches in-
cluded: Evelyn Johnson of the
Grand Bend United Church; Esther
Stewardson and Kathy Adams of
the Lake Huron Comrnunity
Church; Maida Gaiser and Rita
Chandler from Dashwood United;
Dorothy White of St. John's -By -
The -Lake Anglican; and Gera Pe-
ters and Roberta Walker form Im-
maculate Heart of Mary Catholic
Church. Walker performed a spe-
cial solo, "The Magnificat", a
hymn to the Virgin Mary.
The guest speaker was Evelyn
Krueger, reflecting on the theme
"God calls on us to respond." Cain
asked God "Am I my brother's
keeper?" after he slew his brother
Abel. Are we responsible for the
world's poor and needy in Haiti,
Rwanda, Bosnia, or the homeless
here in Canada?
According to Christ, we arc re-
sponsible. The life of Christ is
tilled with examples of how we are
to treat our neighbors, from the tale
of the Good Samaritan to forgive-
ness of the women taken in adul-
tery. We are to love our neighbors
as ourselves, to be a caring commu-
nity that lifts, restores and makes
whole.
How can I make a difference? To
one person at a time; through
World Vision, Amnesty Interna-
tional, the local food bank, letters
and prayers. Pray for the potential
to make a difference; to be the
hands and heart of Christ here on
earth.
The collection raised $170 for the
work of the Women's Inter -Church
Council of Canada, for their pro-
jects here and abroad. These in-
clude start-up funds for a poultry/
egg business and for a craft/culture
employment project, both in Haiti.
Other grants provide educational
training self-help projects, and in-
formation about domestic abuse.
The theme for the 1997 World Day
of Prayer is "Like a Seed Which
Grows Into a Tree," coming to us
from the women of Korea.
After the service, all those attend-
ing met in the church basement for
a time of fellowship and refresh-
ments.
