EXETER - The South Huron Recreation Centre is wrap-
ping up their winter season and are preparing fur their bus-
iest time of the year.
Dog obedience school was the leader of the pack again
for adults, and youth gymnastics seemed to be the most
popular activity for children.
However, with the new 1996 Spring Programs now avail-
able, people will be shifting their focus on to more season-
al activities and should consult the Recreation Centre's
program for information on summer sports registrations.
Rec Centre staff say some of the ongoing programs in-
cluding additions such as an added elementary level to the
Acro/Jazz program, an activity that combines exercises,
wallwork, tumbling, line work and jazz dancing.
Some programs such as the baby sitting course, the active
parenting of teens course and the CPR instruction course

are only available during the spring and summer seasons;
while other activities only happen once such as Youth Bin-
go, the Kids Kookie Kap& and the March Break Kickoff
featuring the popular snake lady and her hands-on exotic
pets.
Even the seniors are getting into the action as Exeter will
host the 1996 Community Senior Games. Designed to pro-
mote fun and friendly competition among seniors, 55 and
older, with 17 scheduled events such as carpet, lawn and
alley bowling, shuffleboard, horseshoes, swimming and
card gatnes.
The biggest surprise last spring may be the most popular
event again this year. Road hockey brought the kids out in
flocks as the young hockey players in Exeter refused to say
goodbye to the sport, long after the outdoor ice rinks have
melted.
Jo -Anne Fields, Rec Centre staff, said all of the age
groups are filling up, however, the seven to eight year-old
category still needs teams. Fields said the tournament is,
popular among • youngsters because they have the opt
poltunity b pick their own teams and orgapize the event. ';
"Phis is the. one thing that isn't planned for them. They
pick the teams themselves an stripe .of these kids have been
practicing for weeks," said Fields adding some consider it
the highlight of their March break.
Fields recalls the Dietrich family of Exeter who were
faced with a peculiar problem when their spring break va-...
cation conflicted with the road hockey dates.
"Rte Dietrich boys said they would rather stay home to
play road hockey instead of going to Florida with mom -.'
and dad," she said.

LONDON - The Exeter Junior.
Classics won bronze in the Sun
County Precision Skating Compe-
tition in London on Saturday.
Over 50 teams competed in this
year's event, including 10 teams
Exeter skated against in their "B"
level group. Exeter went up against
five teams in the preliminaries
placing second, which secured a
place in the gold finals.
In front of a panel of judges, Ex-
eter skated against the best teams in
the competition and were rewarded
with the bronze. Team captains Jo-
die McGee and Shonyn Baynham
were excited about the girl's perfor-
mance.
"It was a tremendous team effort,
they did a superb job," said
McGee. Both of them credit the
work of their coach Laurie Loosley
for bringing the team to a level
where they can compete with the
best.
"She's had some tough shoes to
fill and she's done a great job,"
said Baynham.
The Exeter Juvenile Mini -
Classics also skated and were
placed eighth out of 19 teams.
They advanced to the final round
placing fifth out of 10 teams.
Next competition is scheduled for
March 23 when Exeter will host
the Western Ontario Sectionals.
