Exeter took the first game hands down Friday with Shayne Rob- inson, Sean Brown and Chris Ken- nedy scoring in the third period. Nathan Burns banged one home in the first and Mark Livermore scored the final goal in the third. After eliminating St Marys from playoff contention last week, the Chiefs entered a six point quarter final series against Aylmer. They were defeated 5-2 in Aylmer on Friday but responded with a win the following night at home blanking them 1-0. Brian Richardson and Rob Kobayashi scored for Exeter on Friday with assists from Brian Gardner, Marty Debruyn and Scott Ra- senburg. Gardner scored Exeter's lone goal Saturday after banging one home in the first period. He was assisted by captain Derek Beckett and Scott Rowe. Despite accumulating 33 penalty minutes in the third game, the Chiefs matched Aylmer goal for goal in a 4-4 tie on Sunday night. Debruyn and Steve Cook scored unassisted goals while Kobayashi and Ben Geiger notched one each off feeds from Trevor Taylor and Mike Bowerman. "This has proven to be an unpredictable series," said coach Henri Debruyn adding discipline will be the key factor in beating Aylmer. "It's crucial we stay out of the penalty box. We didn't in Aylmer when we lost," he said. Debruyn said everybody on the team has stepped up their play, especially goalie Dennis Roth who recorded a shut out against the defending champions on Saturday night. "He's been holding us in there," added Debruyn. Exeter is currently tied with Aylmer with three points each and a win and a tie is all they need to clinch the series and advance to the semi-finals. The Chiefs will travel to Aylmer for the fourth game before host- ing them on Saturday. ' After losing 6-3 in Lucan Wednesday, the Irish bowed to Sea - forth again on Saturday dropping a 6-2 decision. Steve Mathews, Steve Hudson, Trevor Emms and Jeremy Jemec have been Lucan's goal getters so far in the series, but the rest of the team will have to contribute if the Irish are going to dig themselves out of the hole they have dug. "Seaforth have raised their game up to the next level and they're playing good hockey but we haven't and we're in a bit of a slump right now," said coach Scott Bogart. Seaforth's performance doesn't come as a surprise to Bogart con- sidering both teams finished the regular season with almost identical records. Only three points separat- ed the two teams who finished sec- ond and third in their division. "I'm not surprised with how they are playing. I knew they were go- ing to come on strong," he said. Bogart feels a win in Lucan on Wednesday will put them back in the series and he feels confident his team can turn things, around. "No one said it was going to be easy," said Bogart.
