was the grandparent of an early
years classmate, Brittany refused to
leave and called a teacher for help.
According to the Exeter OPP, the
incident was a "complete mis-
understanding." However, it did
concern the Vandergunst family.
The grandparent understood a sec-
ond child was to be picked up after
school and had Brittany left with
her fellow student, her parents
would not have known where to
find her. According to Brittany's
mother Victoria, the appearance of
the woman alarmed her daughter
who said she didn't want to go
home with her and began to cry.
Victoria also said she was
pleased the officer who responded
to the call talked to the Brittany,
telling her she acted correctly.
In recent weeks there have been
an alarming number of reports of
children being approached by
strangers in the London area that
have resulted in an increase in
awareness by parents.
Stratford
man
charged
EXETER - A Stratford man
was charged by OPP after offi-
cers from Goderich, Clinton
and Exeter were dispatched to
intercept a vehicle witnessed to
be travelling between 120 and
130 kilometers per hour and
failing to obey stop signs.
According to police, David
Steward, 27, was headed north-
bound on Highway 4, south of
Clandeboye, when he attempted
to pass two vehicles. As he
started to pass, another vehicle
came around the curve south-
bound and Steward forced his
way back into the northbound
lane between two vehicles, caus-
ing the second, a red Jeep, to
brake sharply.
The occupants of the Jeep,
from Huron Park, followed the
car and called police because he
began to pass other vehicles un -
safely, forcing a southbound ve-
hicle off the road.
Local youths charged
EXETER - Four local youths
were charged as a result of com-
plaints from Eric Campbell Motors
and the Zurich arena about gas cap
thefts and damage to several vehi-
cles. The matter is now before the
courts.
Police reported suspects had sto-
len the gas caps from five vehicles
at the Zurich arena and in one inci-
dent the thieves bent the cap cover
causing more than $200 in damage
to this vehicle.
In a related incident on the same
night of Feb. 21, police were
called to Campbell's to investigate
complaints of several thefts of gas
caps. A targe number had been
ripped from their cables and stolen
from the vehicles.
Total damage from both incidents
is listed at approximately $550.

when a stranger told her she was to
accompany another child home.
