Panther Profile
By Anita Wein
Many people seem to think extra-cirricular activities within the
school system are not very important but if you talk to anyone in-
volved, both students and teachers will tell you how important all
these extras are.
South Huron presents the students with a wide range of activities
they can get involved with including, sports, music, peer helping,
Reach for the Top, dances, intramurals. The students and staff work
together planning and running these events. There are about 200 stu-
dents involved with sports and the average attendance for most
dances is between 300 and 500.
A common misconception that comes along with extra -curricular
activities is they impact students' marks in a negative way. In most
cases the opposite is true. Most of the involved students also main-
tain a high standard in their academics. If you were to ask any of the
invovled students they would tell you these extras give them a
chance to develop other skills and have a lot of fun.
So for all you involved students keep up the good work and if you
are thinking of getting involved... take the risk and go for it. Also I
encourage all parents to support their children. And to the parents
who do, keep up the good work, we really do appreciate it. Lastly
we cannot forget the staff who make it all possible. Thanks for your
support.
