Exeter Hawks sustain
third loss of the season
Sean McCann nets a hat
trick in a losing cause
against Mount Brydges
Chris Skalkos T -A staff
MOUNT BRYDGES - After beating Thamesford
by one goal Thursday the Exeter Hawks sustained
their third loss of the season the following night
dropping a 5-3 decision to Mount Brydges.
Sean McCann exploded with three goals in the
third period in a losing cause. Mark Livermore,
Brian Gardner and Craig Corriveau assisted his hat
trick which came too late to bail them out of a 4-0
deficit.
The Hawks were without their big guns as Nathan
Burns, Shayne Robinson, Joey McDonald, Sean
Brown, Geoff Mayer and Ryan Chamney were ab-
sent from the line-up.
Chris Kennedy was sent to the showers early after
receiving five minutes for cross checking and a
game misconduct in the first period.
The thin bench was a factor the Hawks couldn't
overcome despite McCann's three goal effort late
in the game.
"He usually pulls that off when the chips are
down," said assistant coach Jeff Dalrymple about
McCann's performance. "He's been one of our
biggest team leaders and he plays the role night af-
ter night."
Mentally, Dalrymple feels the loss might be good
for them. Riding a ten game winning streak the
players may be getting too used to winning and a
Toss shortly before going into the playoffs may be
what they needed to bring them back to reality.
Hawks beat Thamesford
The night before, Craig Corriveau bailed his team
out of trouble scoring two goals against Tha-
mesford in the third period lifting his team to a 4-3
victory.
Despite out shooting their opponents by ten points
in the back and forth game, the Hawks could only
manage two goals scored by Dave Farquhar and
McCann until Corriveau took matters into his own
hands notching two goals of his own for Exeter.
"He's been coming up big for us lately and he de-
served those two goals," said Dalrymple.
With four more games left in their schedule, Exet-
er is already looking towards the playoffs, how-
ever, what may prove to be their biggest game of
the regular season has yet to be played.
The Hawks will meet North Middlesex in the first
round of the playoffs and their home game against
North Middlesex at the South Huron Recreation
Centre will set the tone for the series.
