10 YEARS AGO
December 18, 1895 - Exeter was among the municipalities to re-
ceive a polite thank you letter from Toyota Motor Corporation indi-
cating it had not been chosen as a site for the Japanese firm's new
manufacturing plant.
25 YEARS AGO
December 1,, 1970 - Jim Connolly who has held the position of
acting road foreman in the village of Grand Bend for the past four
years resigned recently. He has accepted the road superintendent po-
sition in Southampton.
The Hon. Charles MacNaughton announced today that arrange-
ments are being completed for the provision of flying services at
Centralia Industrial Park. The new business, Huron Air Parks Limit-
ed will provide radio and weather reporting services, commercial air
transportation and flying instruction and aircraft sales and servicing
out of a hangar to be erected on the former air force base.
35 YEARS AGO
December 19, 1960 - Charles P. Corbett became the fourth family
member to serve in municipal pffice when he was elected to Lucan
council last week and headed the polls. Both his father and grandfa-
ther have been wardens of Middlesex county.
40 YEARS AGO.
December 17, 1955 -The proposed dam in Usborne township was
dubbed "Morrison Dam" in honor of the chairman of the Ausable
River Conservation Authority, John A. Morrison.
Grand Bend took their first step towards building a community
centre when they agreed to purchase a parcel of land near the village
school on which the centre will be erected.
50 YEARS AGO
December 18, 1945 - So anxious was he to be home for Christmas
after four years overseas, Calbert Cutting, a stretcher case, who ar-
rived at Halifax on the Lady Nelson, took leave from the hospital
train and arrived in Exeter the same afternoon.
The Exeter arena and the gymnasium have received a coat of alu-
minum during the past week.
The Exeter Lions Club donated $1,500 to the British Children's
War Victims' fund at their meeting Monday night.
F.Lt. W.L. Schroeder who recently returned from Ceylon where
he was attached to the RCAF is one of 25 methbers who have been
awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
75 YEARS AGO
December 17, 1920 - An unknown person or persons broke into
Mr. Maurice Brenner's Garage in Grand Bend and removed the
four tires on Mr. Robert Pollock's new sedan car and took them
away.
Five persons guessed the correct weight of the Christmas baby
beef in Paul's butcher shop. Thirty pounds of the beef were divided
equally between Mrs. C.F. Hooper, Messrs. H. Rundle, David Ru -
sell, George Snell and T.H. Ferguson.
Elected by acclamation in Exeter were reeve B.W. Beavers and
councillors Charles Snell, W.H. Penhale, Jesse Elston and Joe Da-
vis. •
Mrs. .W. Glenn of Hensall was appointed a member of the wom-
en's executive of the UFWO in Toronto.
100 YEAR S AGO
December 19, 1895 - The tax collector was in Hurondale last Sat-
urday and swagged in a nice little pile. He says there will be a very
small five percent list this year. This speaks well for the farmers
who respond to the tune of about $10,500 annually.
Hay township clerk Fred Hess Sr. reports that all births, deaths
and marriages not registered by December 25 are liable to a fine of
$25 for negligence.
The usual handshaking incidents to this approaching election sea-
son have commenced and the ordinary citizen discovers that he has
more friends than he was aware of.
At the recent fat stock show in Hensall, Thomas Sweet of Exeter
eminently successful in the stock ring, obtained first prize and
sweepstakes for his two year-old heifer. David Davis purchased the
animal for the Christmas trade at five cents per pound live weight.
The pews in Main. street Methodist church were rented on
Wednesday last and were all taken in a short time. Sittings, howev-
er, can be secured on application to the pew steward.
J.A. Taylor of Hensall has sold his grocery business to J.W.
Broderick of Exeter who intends to put in dry goods along with it.

EXETER - The Women's Minis-
tries from the Exeter Pentecostal
Tabernacle was hc'd at the home
of Mrs. Jenny Kipfer at 2 p.m. De-
cember 14.
The roll call was taken and an-
swered by a bible verse on King-
dom. There were nine present.
In the business it was decided to
send a donation to the Spanish
Missionary in London, also a do-
nation to the Huron County
Health, The Needy Children and
the India's Boys Home will be
sent.
Jean Triebner was presiding over
the meeting, and asked Ada•Trieh-
ner to pray.
Jean Jolly read the Christmas
Story from the Bible, Luke chapter
2, this was accompanied by Christ-
mas carols.
Ruth McLaren read a poem,
"The Night Before Jesus Came."
Lunch was served and provided
by everyone.

6, 121 Grand Bend Golden Agers
met at 12:30 p.m. to enjoy their
Christmas luncheon. A turkey meal
with all the trimmings was catered
to by the Legion.
Entertainment was provided by
the Grand Bend Public School Jun-
ior Choir, under the direction of
Danielle Gordon and Mr. ,Marchan.
The local Kazoo choral ensemble
under the direction of Larry Cole
sang and played a variety of Christ-
mas carols.
The seniors enjoyed a solo by
Harriet Van der Burgt and Jim
Shaw reminisced about an unfor-
gettable .Christmas he spent during
the war.
The next meeting is January 3 at
12:30 p.m.
