CHThT)RFTVaud CHRISTMAS
The Night Before
Christmas
By Kristine Maclsaac
Grade 3, Exeter Public School
The night before Christmas we
started to put up our Christmas dec-
orations. We also put up our Christ-
mas tree. I was getting a box ready
for Operation Christmas Child. The
next morning when I woke up, I
said, "It's Christmas, It's Christ-
mas," to mom and dad. Then we
went in the living room to get our
presents, but when we got there,
there were no presents. Then 1 said,
"Santa Claus was not here this
year," "Oh well," said mom. "I
guess we will have to have Christ-
mas without presents this year."
"But mom..."
"No buts."
"Okay mom. What's for dinner
mom?" "Oh it's a surprise."
"But I want to know now. I am
going to play outside with our next
door neighbour, okay? See you lat-
er, Bye mom."
"Bye."
When dad got home I was still
outside playing with my friends.
We were playing tag. I was "it". I
caught my friend Steven. Soon they
had to go inside for dinner, but I
was on my doorsteps, waiting for
Santa Claus. Just then I heard bells
ringing. I looked up in the sky and I
saw Santa Claus and his reindeer
going from roof to roof. I got up
and ran downstairs. I saw Santa
Claus putting presents under our
tree. I saw him drink the milk and
eat the cookies. I laughed at him
because he had a milk moustache,
but he saw me laughing at him.
Then I ran back upstairs and went
hack to sleep.

Dear Santa:
How are your elves and reindeer?
How is Mrs. Claus at making cook-
ies? I hope they are good. Do you
have a reindeer called Olive? This
year I would like Gak.
Yours truly, Amber

If I was an elf I would talk to Santa.
If I was an elf I would listen to San-

Christmas Is for Giving
By Annamarie Bedard
Grade 7, St. Boniface School
Once upon a time there lived a
rich king in Salfar. He was a very
greedy and selfish man. He had no
queen because no woman would
marry such a conceited man, even
if he was rich! Salfar was a very
poor city. It was surprising that it
was poor because in the city lived a
king. The king was the only one
that had money out of the whole
city. Since the king had so much
money, he didn't ever have to leave
the castle for a job or to shop.
Everything he ever wanted or need-
ed, he already had! The king hadn't
seen outside the castle walls since
he was born!
Christmas was coming in a week
or so and the king was still very
selfish. The maids tried telling him
about the real meaning of Christ-
mas but all he could think about
was presents and money. "What am
I getting for Christmas? What
should I buy myself this year?"
were the questions he often asked
himself when Christmas came
around. For the king didn't realize
that there were other people in the
city that weren't as wealthy as him
and when Christmas came around
they didn't get love, a home or
presents. All he thought about was
himself!
One day the maids got very furi-
ous with the king because they had
seen what it was like outside and
the king refused to go and see him-
self! So they stopped working for
him and laid around all day like he
usually did. The king didn't realize
why the maids were being so stub-
born. So he finally went to see the
outside for himself. He went out-
side and saw all the people on the
streets, homeless and unhappy!
Since it was Christmas Eve, the
king opened up his big heart and
took the homeless and unhappy
people into the castle and fed them
a scrumptious meal!. Then he let all
of the people stay for the night so
they wouldn't be alone on Christ-
mas Day.
The next morning everybody
woke up and opened presents. The
maids were so happy for the king
and the king was proud of himself!
They had never seen so many
smiles! I guess Christmas isn't for
getting, it's for giving.
Miracle on 1-75
By Chris Boyes
Grade 6, Grand Bend P.S.
It was a cold day in December.
Joe was walking around town.
Things were pretty boring in a
small town like Timbuctoo. For
once in his life time, Joe would ac-
tually do something different: he
would jump in a garbage dumpster.
No! he would walk along I-75
which was quite a ways away from
his little town. He walked and
walked until finally, he reached
Exit 12 off 1-75. He was amazed at
all the people with signs in there
that said "Florida or bust". He even
saw a few motorcycle gangs doing
the same thing.
Joe walked non-stop until he was
run over by a reindeer then by sev-
en more after that, and then he was
pulled up onto a sleigh by a huge
man.
They flew up above the clouds
and the man dropped him off at
West Palm Beach where a band of
hippies tried to hold him upside
down and make him meditate. Joe
ran away from the hippies and
spent Christmas in Florida. From
that day on, he had been a part of
the miracle on I-75.
Who's Santa
By Christina Davies
Grade 7/8, Usborne Central P.S.
Last night, when 1 was sitting on
the steps, I saw Santa. Bushy, white
beard, great big stomach, it was
Santa. The thing that surprised me
was he walked through the door,
and we have a chimney.
1 shouted gleefully "Santa! You're
here!"
He jumped almost a metre in the
air, landed on the floor and 1 no-
ticed that his hair had slipped off
his egg-shaped head.
1 looked at him and gasped loudly.
He slid his hand around his bald
head.
"Darn! My hair!" He searched
madly, then looked at me with my
mouth hanging wide open and my
eyes bulging like tennis balls. What
had I done? He looked a little mad,
especially when he ripped off his
beard so fluffy and white.
Don't tell him I told you, but he
looked at lot like my dad.
The next day I scurried down the
stairs skipping a step. When I got
downstairs I tore open all my
presents. I had everything I wanted
and more. What else could I ask
for? Welt...I could have asked for a
ride in Santa's sleigh.
Boy, maybe I'll wait on the steps
next year. This time I won't forget
to ask him about it.
Better yet, I think I'll ask my dad.
Christmas
By Nicole Bulanda
Grade 7, St. Patrick's School
Snowflakes falling to the ground,
When friends and family gather
round,
Candles glowing very bright,
So carolers can sing at night.
Santa Claus is on his way,
In his big red Christmas sleigh,
Bringing presents for you and me,
To put underneath our Christmas
tree.
Children going to sleep at night,
Dreaming of presents with delight,
Children running down the stairs,
Looking at presents that are theirs.
A creche is underneath the tree,
Baby Jesus looking, up at me,
Mother Mary calms his cry,
A star shining brightly in the sky.
Jesus Christ was born this day,
In a manger far away,
Now, I say without a doubt,
That's what Christmas is about.

Christmas

The most important things about
Christmas are...
• Seeing the Christmas lights all
over
• Helping my mom make Christmas
cookies for Santa
• Lighting a candle of Advent
• Hearing the stories about baby Je-
sus and the star above the stable
• Giving each other presents.
My Christmas Wish

snow that would lightly cover the

feast and feast. Me and my mom
and dad and brother will open the
presents. I wish that all of the other

Christmas like me.
