The Christmas Rush
By Nicole Jordan and Katie
Vander Burgt
Grade 7, Precious Blood School
The Christmas rush is here once
more
The children can't wait, they want
With colourful packages they walk
up and down the streets,
With a funky beat which they
dance on funky feet,
Up and down the streets they go,
While they look in the windows, on
the go!,
Everyone knows when Christmas is
here!
Therefore they shop, shop,- shop un-
til they flop
The streets are full with shoppers
And everyone's racing to get the
best buys,
We must leave you now, to finish
our lists,
Or we'll miss the big Christmas
bliss.
Merry Christmas.
Letter to Santa
By Amanda Carter
Grade 1/2, Usborne Central P.S.
Dear Santa:
My name is Amanda Carter and I
am 6 years old. I have been a really
good girl. I helped Mom with my
baby brother Adam.
For Christmas I would like: can-
dy, Barbies, and to have a peaceful
environment to live in.
Would you like some milk and
cookies? I really like Rudolph, and
the song "Rudolph the Red Nosed
Reindeer" and I will leave him a
carrot for him to enjoy while he
works so hard.
Could you take me to the North
Pole with you, please.
That Night
By Crystal Trevithick and Rhon-
da Yeo
McGillivray Public School
A big angel flying,
Around a baby crying,
Because of his birth,
People wondered what he was
worth, '
A Royal Queen came to see,
Who this baby belonged to thee,
He grew up and was called Jesus,
Until this day he still pleas.

Christmas Story
By Ashton D.T.
Grade 4, Grand Bend P.S.
Hi, my name is Ashton,. I have a
story to tell you.
Once upon a time they was a girl
named Jennifer. She was sleeping
and she heard a noise. She ran
downstairs and saw Santa. "Hey are
you Jennifer?"
"Yes Santa."
"Follow me! By the way, this is
your Christmas present. We're
here."
"What is this?"
"It's Santa's Village."
"Is this where you live?"
"No, I live in the north pole."
"Wow this is cool. I say you
would like it. There were ice slides,
skating rinks, snow forts, snow
houses, lots of people and security
guards and scopsher too. It was so
neat that you would. We're lucky.
There was hot chocolate.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm good,
good. I love hot chocolate. It's
good.
"Santa I want to go home."
"O.K.".
At Christmas Time
By Jeffrey Miller
Grade 8, Zurich Public School
Christmas time is a time to care and
time to have a chair,
Christmas time is a time to cele-
brate the birth of a new King.
Christmas time is a time to remem-
ber the doorbell ring,
Christmas time is a time to give a
gift but not to receive.
Christmas time is a time to be gen-
erous and to play tennis,
Christmas time is a time to have
eggnog and some rum,
Christmas time is a time to end this
lovely poem.
Christmas Gone
By Nicole Rogers
Grade 7, St. Patrick's School
The gifts are all open, it's Christ-
mas Day,
I'm going down the hill on my
brand new sleigh,
My sister received a light blue coat,
While my brother played with his
brand new boat.
My sister and I were talking last
night,
As we were looking at the Christ-
mas lights,
As Christmas goes we approach the
New Year,
We all celebrate and wish you good
cheer.
The Little Elf
By Katie Stewart
Grade 2, Hensall Public School
Once upon a time there was a lit-
tle elf. He wanted to be a dentist.
He didn't like being an elf. Santa
said, "I like you being an elf. We
need a lot of elves to make a lot of
toys at Christmas. The other elves
said, "Next Christmas you can be a
dentist." "Elves are you all done
making the toys? I have to go."
The elves put the toys in the
sleigh and Santa left.
Mrs. Claus said, "I hope Santa
doesn't run into some fog."
Now Santa is back. Mrs. Claus
asked, "Did you have a good
time?" "Yes! Elves make some
more toys while I go to sleep.
Santa woke up. It was Christmas
again.
The elves said, "You can be a
dentist now. Have a good ride!
Bye, Santa Claus!"
May your Christmas be
filled with everything
good, and may your 1Vew
Year be especially Happy.

A
Understanding More
About Christmas
By Laura Wright
Grade 7, Huron Centennial P.S.
December 25 is a very well
known date. This date is recognized
by many people, children and
adults, as Christmas Day.
Although the true reason for cele-
bration on Christmas Day is the
birth of Jesus, how many children
realize this? How many adults re-
member this, after getting all
caught up in Christmas shopping?
Children run to their Christmas
trees on Christmas morning and
look for their own gifts, then check
to see if they received more or less
than their siblings! Aren't they ob-
viously forgetting something?
What about the birth of Jesus - why
don't they remember?
Is it because of the business with
Santa Claus, and writing letters to
him, telling him what they want for
christmas?
Of course, receiving gifts from
Santa adds the fun to Christmas,
but I think that it also puts a little
greed into children's minds. The av-
erage child's letter to Santa Claus
could be asking for over fifteen ob-
jects!
I think children should be thank-
ful to receive only a few gifts for
Christmas, for in some parts of the
world, and even Canada, some chil-
dren don't receive anything on
Christmas day to be thankful for.
Also, many young children be-
come so interested in Santa and
presents, when Christmas arrives,
that they forget all about the spirit
of Christmas, and the meaning of
christmas.
The spirit of Christmas is joyous
and happy thoughts about Christ-
mas. Singing Christmas carols, dec-
orating the Christmas tree, and re-
membering that Christmas is a time
for giving, not receiving, are spirits
of Christmas.
Alas, the most important thing
about Christmas is its meaning;
which is love.
A Lot of Great
Friends
By Ashley Dickey
Grade 6, Exeter Public School
One day a beautiful girl whose
name was Kathryn was skating in
Exeter's Arena getting ready for
the annual Christmas ice show.
Usually skating made her happy
but today figure skating only added
to her already awful day. You see
her coach was pressuring her to ask
her parents to get her new skates
for the upcoming holiday.
But her parents weren't going to be
able to get them for Kathryn, be-
cause right now they were on a
very tight budget;
So days went by and still she
hadn't asked her parents for new
skates. This was really starting to
affect her skating. Every time
something was wrong you could
see it in her skating. There was
only one thing she could do, ask
one of her closest friends for ad-
vice. "Hello Alyza? It's Kathryn."
"Oh, hello Katie." By now Kathryn
was just about in tears so she had to
tell somebody, and Alyza was just
that somebody she needed. As she
told Alyza her problem, she started
to cry. "Oh Kathryn! I didn't real-
ize this was happening! You must
feel so bad!" Alyza said "Well
you're right! I do," replied Kath-
ryn. Alyza said she had to go and
told Kathryn not to worry.
The days went by and Christmas
day finally arrived. As usual Kath-
ryn's sister Lindsey was up at 4:10
a.m. Kathryn knew those skates
wouldn't be under the beautiful
tree. But to her surprise they were.
Alyza had told all her friends and
they all chipped in and bought her
those skates. Ashley, Jenny, Jamie,
Lindsey, everybody. "Deck the
halls with boughs of holly." Kath-
ryn opened the door and there stood
her friends! "Oh, you guys are the
greatest," Kathryn said with tears
of joy and relief. "I love you guys!
All of ya!"
The Night Baby Jesus
Was Born
By Brittany Revington
Grade 5, Mt. Carmel
One dark, foggy night, Joseph
walked beside Mary riding on a
donkey to an inn. There was no
room at the inn, but was able to
stay at the stable where the animals
slept. Baby Jesus was born that
night as a bright star appeared in
the sky. All the shepherd and three
kings followed the bright star to the
stable to find Baby Jesus. The shep-
herds, the three kings bearing gifts
of gold, frankincense and myrrh
and all the animals gather around
Baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph to
worship him.
Merry Christmas
Everybody
By Jenna DeGroot
Grade 3, St. Boniface School
To me the most important things
about Christmas are: Jesus' birth-
day, yummy hot chocolate, nice
Christmas lights, going to my
grandma's, Christmas songs and
eating a special meal. There is lots
of laughter and joy with nice peo-
ple who love you. I like playing
with cousins, my family and caring,
sharing, loving and giving. We
drink pop in wine cups. I love to
talk to people about my favourite
stories. Amy and I play with Jesa-
lyn. I love Christmas!
Christmas
By Scott Ferguson
Grade 2, St. Boniface School
Christmas is nice because it is Je-
sus' birthday and he was smiling.
Light dazzled around him. Mary
was glad she had a cute boy. He
died for us so we must be good for
God and Jesus. Mary told all the
people when she had given birth to
Jesus.. He touches the heart of the
person who is reading. this.
Christmas Eve
By Craig Hoover
Grade 5, Hensall Public School
On Christmas Eve I have no fright,
Except for the fat man out at night,
He comes down the chimney with-
out a sound,
Don't ask me how, cause he's pret-
ty round.
I stay up to see him on Christmas
night,
He drops all the presents and goes
in flight.
Christmas Story
By Jennifer Vanhie
Grade 2, Mt. Carmel
Jesus was born in Bethlehem and
the wise men came and brought a
gift. The wise men were signaled
by the angels. The angels told the
wise men that Jesus was born.
Letter to Santa
By Janelle Dykstra
Grade 4, Usborne Central P.S.
Dear Santa:
For Christmas I would like Kitty
Kitty Kittens and money. I would
also like to see Santa. I'll even
make cookies this year. I would
like Susie Stretch. I want a tape re-
corder. I want an art set. I would
like some new clothes, not too
much. I want every stuffed animal.
That's all I can think of now except
Twist and Style Tiffiney.
Bye for now Santa.
Christmas Story
By Brandie Smith
Grand Bend Public School
One night I was sleeping. And I
heard a noise. So I went downstairs
to see what it was. By the Christ-
mas tree there was Santa Claus. So
I said, "My name is Brandie. Santa
may I go to your house?"
"O.K." So we are on our way.
We got there and I saw some elves.
They were wearing green. They
were making toys. They are quiet.
Santa gave me a special thing.
So Santa took me home, And it
was morning. I went downstairs
and I saw presents.
So we had a good Christmas.

Christmas For Me
By Jamie Bibby
Grade 5,,Stephen Central P.S.
On Christmas morning when I
wake up,
The first thing I do is look at the
clock.
I get out of bed and tiptoe to the
tree,
I am looking for presents that read
"To Jamie".
After I look, I only find two,
The next thing I do is whisper "Yah
Who!"
I tiptoe quietly back up to my bed,
I can't get to sleep with thoughts of
presents in my head.
Letter to Santa
By Kori Millar
Grade 1/2, Usborne Central P.S.
Dear Santa:
I have been good this year. For
Christmas I would like: some play
doh, a monster truck, a Lion King
book, a white teddy bear, and some
Lego.
Thank you for reading this letter.
P.S. I was wondering if you
could bring me at least two of my
things? Will you say hi to your
elves for me? Thank you.
