Exeter Hawks win in overtime
EXETER - The Exeter Junior "D"
Hawks remain undefeated after
nudging Mitchell 5-4 in overtime
on Sunday.
Neither team wasted any time get-
ting on the scoreboard as Mitchell
scored 15 seconds into the game.
The Hawks responded half a minute
later with a goal from Chris McDo-
nald assisted by Geoff Mayer, and
Ryan Chamney.
Nathan Burns added another
when he pumped one in off a feed
from Shayne Robinson and Joe
MacDonald. But Mitchell capital-
ized on two powerplay goals scor-
ing a couple more before the period
was out to pull them up by one.
The Hawks tied it up in the sec-
ond with goals from Steve Far-
quhar and MacDonald. They were
assisted by Mark Livermore,
Chamney, Sean McCann and Chris
Kennedy.
Mitchell tied the score at four
with only a few seconds remaining
to play in the second period.
The scoreboard depicted an even
contest but the game was anything
but even. Exeter looked as if they
didn't want to be there getting out
muscled by a much smaller Mitch-
ell team who managed to outshoot
them 27-16 for the first two pe-
riods.
The third period, however, was a
different story. The Hawks came
out flying and took it to Mitchell
creating a few good scoring op-
portunities. They outshot them 11-5

but couldn't find the game winner.
,Sean McCann scored the game
winner with just under three min-
utes left in the extra period sending
the Mitchell team home with their
pockets empty.
Mark Bell and Kennedy picked
up the assists.
Head coach Dave Revington was
not impressed with the Hawk's first
40 minutes on the ice and he attrib-
utes their lack luster performance
to one thing.
"It all comes down to skating.
They're not working hard enough
to get from A to 8," said Reving-
ton. "They were pushing us around
a little bit because they were out -
skating us."
The late game burst that saved
Ryan Chamney races for the

5-4 overtime victory against
Mitchell Sunday night.

after exploding in the third period
for three goals.
Bill Hodge, Burns, Shayne Rob-
inson and Jason McBride were the

Sunday's game against Mitchell
wasn't the Hawk's best per-

and Exeter remains undefeated this
season.
They will host Langton this Fri-
day and travel to North Middlesex
the following day before facing
Morenz division rivals the Lucan
Irish at the end of the month.

AYLMER - The Exeter juve-
niles lost their second game of the
season in Alymer Sunday. after-
noon.
Alymer started the scoring early
taking a two goal lead to end the
first period. Exeter got on the
board in the second when Mark
Glavin beat the Alymer goalie,
with assists going to Scott Bar-
clay and Dereck Beckett, but not
before Alymer added another to
end the period with a 3-1 lead.
Exeter Manager John Rasen-
berg said "They were hungrier
than us, more prepared and more
physical."
Alymer added three more goals
in the third period before Exeter's
Scott Barclay scored assisted by
Mark Glavin and Dereck Beckett.
The game ended in a 6-2 loss, up-
dating the Chiefs record to 7-2-2
on the season.
"We didn't have a lot going for
us" said Rasenberg. "We've only
played three home games this
year and seven of our last eight
games are at home, and the other
teams better be ready."
The Chiefs next game is on
Thursday in Ingersoll.
