The Keenagers at Craigwiel Day Centre for Seniors are well aware of how ciose we are to Christmas! The fall has been a busy one with many activities to keep our minds and bodies active and enthused. Since several picnics were can- celled during the summer, we start- ed off in September making up for lost time. We had nice weather for days at both the Breimers and Smiths. Perhaps they were all the more pleasant because we knew that weather for that kind of thing wouldn't be around much longer. \Vith cooler weather, the group began more regular inside exercis- es. \\'e have been "Reaching for the Sun" and reaping the benefits as we do so. Have you ever celebrated "Kie- ho-no-ho"•► It is a Day of Respect for Elders. We celebrated by shar- ing with each other the remem- brance of older people we have ad- mired, respected or been shaped by throughout our lives. Try that your- selves! Of course we who work here at the Centre did not have to think long to find many seniors we admire: who have enriched and blessed our lives. Each hrought in a special snapshot and shared our stories about them. `lodcrn technology has brought many changes into our lives. Even though tape recorders have been kith us for some time, nany,of us found it "interesting" to hear the sound of our own voice♦ the day Beth brought hers is. The day that was announced as a Treasure Hunt, we kept finding rhyming clues in the most unex- pected places, until finally we did find treasure. It was an activity that kept an air of anticipation in the en- tire day! On hat day, the group sported everything from sophisticated cha- peaus to farm hats to a Belgian po- 4 lice hat, and another day we ce- brated the Ice Cream Cone's 92nd birthday. There are more ways to golf than you may know about. We've done a lot of "putting on the blues' now we've been introduced to "Pencil Putts"! "Wheel of Fortune" contin- ues to keep. our minds alert, and if that fails, Beth gets out the "Mind Trap"! Now there is an activity that makes your mind work in creative ways! In many of these activities we miss those who were part of the group for many years and no longer come. In September, because she could no longer come, we went to visit Selina Kleeman at Chateau Gardens, and hope to do so many more times. We also spent two af- ternoons on color tours. It is also nice to sce the countryside and some familiar areas, also a trip to Westmount Shopping Mall to do some Christmas shopping. Guests have brought much pleas- ure too. Sandy Potter came to show us some marvelous cooking tips using the microwaves and Tup- perware. Earl Rees brought his model tractors and threshing ma- chine to delight us. It's surprising how many memories they evoked. Jack and Marietta Willemse de- lighted the residents with their ex- perience of finding Jessica Tandy's Tony Award. They brought along pictures and chatted with us over lunch. Then the group watched "Foxftre" starring Jessica and Hume Cronyn. Donna Waterman has started coming again with her interesting topics. Her days are always one of the more popular programs. So far she has covered "Accident Preven- tion" and "Communication: Getting Your Message Across." Now the latter was especially interesting, for we found out that others do not necessarily hear the same thing we think we are communicating! Speaking of guests, we must not forget "Jake!" He is the new gentle- man in Carol Whiteford's life, her Doberman!. Evelyn McNaughton showed some armchair trips. Ila Steeper too, brought her video. The bazaar is past, but Christmas crafts are still on hand, as well as telling Christmas stories, seeing Christmas movies, and looking for- ward to the Day Centre family din- ner. Above, Precious Blood students per- form their Christmas concert last Wednes- day afternoon. At left, Exeter Public School students act out a com- mercial break during their Christmas con - 'cert, which was held on the same day. The Cralgwlel Day Centre Seniors celebrate 'Hat Day". Seated around the table, clockwise from centre front: Freda Litt, Don- na Ayres, Gladys Roth, Agnes Sturgess, Ruth Smith Creative Director, Edna Woodburn, Mary Coulter and Jean Walden. Dear Santa I would like baby so beautiful and Princess Wishing Star for Christmas. I will leave you some milk and cookies and some carrots for your reindeer. (To the tune of Jingle Bells) A day or two ago, I thought I'd hitch a ride and to my surprise I was hit in between the eyes. I fell off the sleigh and the horse ran over me. I had to go to the hospital and then I couldn't see. What a wonderful Christmas this will be. The Staff at W.G. Thompson & Sons Ltd. extend a special Thank -you to all our good friends and patrons for your confidence, loyalty and support... a very Merry Christmas to all and all the best in '96!
