HANDLING THE HOLIDAYS #5
(from A Not So JoIM Chrlstrali by Dr. Bill Webster)
Let's be realistic about the fadt that this Christmas is
different; Perhaps we might acknowledge the person
who Is missing by lighting a candle at the dinner table
and taking a moment of memorial. Let the candle be
a celebration of the person's life and a love shared
rather than just a recognition of a death. Perhaps for
a time some will share special memories or stories.
Humorous incidents recalled can be a special
memory and have healing quality to them. Do what
YOU want and what feels right for YOU. Don't allow
any one else's expectation to dictate what you should
do. Remember that we can be thankful for yesterday
but today is what we have. So look for Joy in each
moment. Celebrate what you HAVE as well as what
you're missing. Don't allow looking back at the past
to spoil what you have in the present. Yes, you miss
your loved one but are children, relatives, friends you
can enjoy today? •
This is the final in a series of rive helpful hints.
