"Here it is very different than in Holland. Christmas is all
about Jesus' birth. That means no presents. But we do go to
Christmas Mass and have good food. One family tradition
is that we always make raisin bread. Instead of visiting our
Omas and Opas we call them now that we live in Canada.

"As far back as I can remember, one of our traditions was
steam pudding. One Christmas Day Grandma would make
the special dessert. After out turkey dinner, she would bring
out the steam pudding and carmel sauce for everyone. Until
you feel the steam rise -up from the pudding and the aroma
in your nose you don't know what Christmas is but once
you do, you know that Christmas means being with your
family and sharing a special tradition"

"Around Christmas all of our relatives gather together to
enjoy a traditional Christmas meal, which includes my
grandmother's tourtiere pie, which is a French-Canadian
meat pie. I help my mother bake the same Christmas treats
her mother and grandmother used to make. Our family has
a sweet tooth, we make over a dozen different kinds of
cookies and sweets. We've always attended Mass on
Christmas Eve. After Mass we each open one present"
