Christmas
pageant
EXETER - "Love" came down
at "Christmas Time", in a lowly
manger while heavenly music sur-
rounded the Holy family in the
stable.
Sunday December 3, many dedi-
cated adults and children of Exeter
United Church presented a magnif-
icent production of the Christmas
story of Jesus' birth.
The procession of the Kings's
and their entourage, the King on
his throne with jewelled crown and
velvet robes surrounded by his
place guards and entertained by
dancing girls - the three Kings in
their flowing satin gowns and
Tamp bearing children - the chorus-
es of music, the gallery' orchestra
and silver trumpets told the famil-
iar story. The shepherds came in
from the hills carrying baby Iambs
to see this wonder. People came
from the four corners of the earth
led by a star and angels.
Perhaps significantly, the elabo-
rate painstaking preparations were
upstaged by the simplicity and
uniqueness of a baby's cry and the
bleating of baby lambs. Joseph
with Mary cradling the Christ
Child in her arms, renewed our
Christmas spirit once more.
We may see the town parade and
miss the main event. Congratula-
tions and thank you.
December
meeting
held for
PCW group
EXETER - The PCW of Carmel
Presbyterian Church recently held
their December meeting. Follow-
ing a delicious pot luck supper,
members began the meeting by an-
swering the roll call with "A
Christmas Memory". Jan Baker,
with the help of Winnie Skea,
Marilyn Campbell, Lola Nixon,
Bev Moir, Cathy Bell and Marg
Varley led in a candlelighting ser-
vice. Dorothy Taylor played the
piano for the singing of many
hymns. Rev. Dan Roushorne then
delivered a Christmas message and
the business portion of the meeting
followed. The next meeting of the
Carmel PCW will be January 8.
Friendship Circle
The Christmas meeting of the
Friendship Circle of Hensall Unit-
ed Church was held December 4 at
the home of Rev. Henry and Ann
Annen.
Ann was in charge of the meet-
ing and welcomed all and gave a
Christmas prayer. She opened the
meeting with a poem. "Christmas
is a Season of Christmas Kind-
ness". A humorous skit entitled "A
Great Saving", starring Helen
MacLean and Ann Annen was
much enjoyed.
The roll call was answered by 18
members each bringing personal
articles for women and children of
Friendship House, Goderich. The
treasurer's report was given and it
was moved by Mona Alderdice
and seconded by Helen MacLean
that the group give donations to
the Mission and Service Fund,
Camp Menesatung, the resource
centre in Mitchell and the special
projects account fund for Hensall
United. The January meeting will
be held January 2 at 1:30, in the
church parlour.
Kay Elder opened her devotions
with a poem. "Silent Night" was
sung, and the scripture reading
was read by Kay Mock. Kay Elder
gave the group some of her own
thoughts on the Christmas story.
"Oh Little Town of Bethlehem"
was sung and the offering received
and dedicated by Elder. A sing
song of Christmas carols was en-
joyed accompanied on the organ by
Belva Fuss. The Mizpah Benedic-
tion in unison closed the meeting.
A fellowship hour was much en-
joyed. The hostesses Mona Alder -
dice and Shirley McAllister served
Christmas pudding.
A reminder that the regular meet-
ing of branch 468 of the Hensel)
Legion will be held December 13,
at the legion.
