Centralia planning Christmas activities

CENTRALIA - On Sunday, No-
vember 26, Communion was cele-
brated at Zion and Centralia United
churches. The floral arrangements
at Centralia were placed in memory
of a long-time Centralia resident,
Bill Elliott, who passed away Mon-
day, November 20. Bill was a well-
known member of the community,
and an active member of Centralia
United Church. In 1948, he estab-
lished Centralia Farm Supply, a fa-
vorite spot for farmers to buy
everything from lumber and live-
stock feed to household necessities.
The funeral was held at Centralia
United Church on Wednesday, No-
vember 22, with Pastor Heather
Smith officiating. The family
would appreciate donations to Cen-
tralia United Church in memory of
Bill Elliott. The community offers
our prayers and condolences to his
family.

Queensway for the Christmas sea-
son. Seeing the trees, tinsel. and
lights gets people into the Christ-
mas spirit.
Bethel Reformed women assisted
residents at a lively Bingo game
Monday afternoon. They have pro-
vided prizes and assistance at Bin-
go each Monday afternoon in No-
vember.
Shirley Luther led worship ser-
vice Tuesday afternoon. Residents
wish her a happy and safe holiday
as she leaves to winter in Florida,
and look forward to her return in
the spring.
Queensway's activity room be-
came a clothing store Thursday
when Geri Fashions of London set
up shop. Several residents and vol-
unteer Edna Deitz modeled 0 the
afternoon fashion show. Residents
viewed the latest fall fashions as re-
freshments were served. Resident.
took part in a free draw and Jack
Lowe won socks. Ceacelia Edgar
won a beautiful brooch and Doro-
thy Wildfong won a flannelette
nightgown.
Resident Council met Friday
morning to discuss the special De-
cember events coming up. Family
and friends are welcome to join
them for any or all of the special

Zion and Centralia United
Churches have trees in their sanctu-
aries to decorate with knitted or
purchased mittens. Contributions to
the trees will he greatly appreciated

the winter months.
Events for the Foodgrains Bank

day. November 30, and at Egmond-
vilte United Church on Friday, De-

On Wednesday, December 6 at
7:30 p.m. at Main Street United

hymn singing and a question and
answer period.
UCW members and their spouses
are invited to the Christmas meet-
ings at Zion West and Centralia.
Zion will meet December 6 at 7:00
p.m. Centralia will meet December
7 with a social time at 6:00 p.m.
and dinner at 6:30 p.m. The pro-
gram will follow.
Everyone is invited to attend the
Christmas concerts at Centralia and
Zion. Centralia will hold theirs Sat-
urday, December 16 at 8:00 p.m.
The Christmas concert at Zion will
he Friday, December 22 at 8:00
p.m. and will include a potluck
lunch.
Special Christmas .services are
being planned for Zion and Cen-
tralia too. On Sunday, December
24 a combined choir will present a
Christmas Cantata at both morning
services. That evening, a Christmas

KiPPEN - Kippen East W.I. met
at the home of their president Grace
Drummond with Dorothy Bell as
co -hostess, on November 21. Grace
had a funny reading to open the
meeting. The roll call was an-
sw erect by the women bringing in
their quilt block patterns for the
hook, more are to come.
Hilda Payne chaired the historical
program. Dorothy Bell and Mar-
lene Bell read poems describing the
husband's point of view about the
Institute and the woman's view of
the Institute.
Hilda introduced Shirley Mous-
seau of Hay Township, who told
the group about the events upcom-
ing in Hay in 1996, the year of their
sesquicentennial. Shirley was
dressed in early era clothing as she
explained how busy everyone has
been planning events which will in-
volve everyone, young and old. She
was thanked by Grace Eyre.
Hilda Payne read "Just Another
Day on the Farm" and Grace Eyre
had the "Smile".

trict Board Meeting and Grace
Drummond gave Area Convention
highlights. Grace Drummond had a
story "Don't Count on Him". Win-
ners of the draw were Lil McLellan
and Marlene Bell. Mona Alderdice
had two contests and lunch was
served by Helen MacLean and
Mona Alderdice. Both anthems
were sung to close the meeting.

Centralia residents may want to
attend the Santa Claus Parade in
Exeter on Saturday, December 2.
The parade will begin at the South
Huron Rec 'Centre at 12:00 p.m.

who's been naughty and nice.
At the euchre party in Crediton,

MacDonald and Percy Noels, while
Doreen Lightfoot and Allen Johns
