EXETER - The Exeter Juvenile Chiefs won back to back games over the wee:.end bringing their undefeated streak to five. The Chiefs smeared Tillsonburg 9-3 Sunday night after coming off a 6-3 win over Cayuga at the South Huron Recreation Centre Saturday night. The shootout in Tillsonburg saw Steve Cook, Gavin Snell, Scott Barclay, Blake Schade and Marty Debruyn score singles while Rich- ard Masse and Mark Glavin scored two goals each. They were assisted by Ryan Freitter, Derek Beckett, Rob Kobayashi, Barclay, Debruyn, Masse and Snell. The scoring frenzy against Tillsonburg wasn't a sur- prise considering they beat them 14-0 during their last encounter; unlike the home game against Ca- yuga on Saturday which was a sur- prise. Instead of falling apart in the sec- ond period, in what seems to be a regular occurrence, the Chiefs ex- ploded in the second with four goals by Barclay, Beckett, and Tre- vor Taylor with assists from Scott Rowe, Glavin and Beckctt. Blake Schade started the scoring drive with an unassisted goal five min- utes into the period. Pre -game predictions that Cayuga would fold midway through the game, tired from the two and an half hour drive and leg -weary from playing on a larger ice surface than what they are used to, didn't hold true. They managed to score in the second and two more in the third period threatening to stage a come; back, but Debruyn clinched the win scoring on a feed from Snell and Schade. Mark Glavin added an- other guarantee goal less than two minutes to play in the game. Despite the back to back wins head coach Henri Debruyn wasn't happy with his team's per- formance." Too many penalties," said Debruyn. "A couple of power play goals put us behind the eight ball. You can yell at them all you want but it's hard to keep their mind on the game." He also wasn't im- pressed with their shoddy first period play. "We were skating like we have never skated before. We talked about having the wide-open ice sur- face but we didn't take advantage of it until the last four minutes," he said. The Chiefs walked away from the weekend with two wins and two lessons learned. Lesson number one, Henri De- bruyn is a hard coach to please. Lesson number two, they will be practicing a lot harder for their up- coming game against Port Stanley in Exeter next Saturday. Port Stanley handed the Chiefs their only defeat of the season in a close 5-4 contest the first time these two teams met and Debruyn is ex- pecting a tough game. "A couple of power play goals put us behind the eight ball..." Chief captain Ryan Beckett swings into action during Exeter Juveniles 3-2 win over Cayuga Saturday at Rec Centre. Young line big point getter for Lucan LUCAN - Scott Bogart, head coach of the Lucan Irish seldom sryiles during a hockey game. But with his team winning all three of their games last week, Bogart has to smile, even if it's just a little bit." I would say we are starting to play more as a team. We're playing a more complete game but we're still not playing a full 60 minutes of hockey by any means," said Bogart. Lucan edged Tavistock 4-3 on Friday but won convincingly against Parkhill 9-2 Wednesday and St. George 7-4 on Saturday. Bogart credits the line of Chad Greenlee, Trevor Emms and Mike Bodner for being a key element in the team's current success. The young guns are all under 18 but make up Lucan's most productive line." They're passing the puck really well and they do what the coach says," Bogart said. W. EXETER 235-3922 older guys can take a few lessons from them," he added. Lucan's defensive squad has matured in their game. They've dropped the fancy plays in their own zone and have adopted Bogart's complex de- fensive strategy. "Keep the puck away from your blue line and the other team can't score," he said. The Irish are Currently sitting on a sma11 four., game winning streak that started after their de- moralizing 16-2 victory over Delhi on Oct. 18. They will put their streak to the test when they host Belmont this Wednesday." We're just going to keep doing what we have been doing," said Bogart elaborating on his game plan. "If we can keep our mental lapses down and play a more complete game we can keep the streak alive." A GREAT GIFT IDEA! IRONWOOD G 0 L F C LOCA7FD 1 MOX E. (W HXF1U OFF HWY.
