November 27, 1985 - One
of the 18 projects for 1986 ap-
proved by the Ausable Bay-
field Conservation Authority
was dredging at the Exeter
dam.
Stephen Township will not
be renewing an agreement
with the Ontario Development
Corporation concerning snow
plowing and grass cutting ser-
vices at Huron Park.
At the annual meeting of
the directors of the Huron
Country • Playhouse, Dave
Sheppard of Grand Bend was
re-elected as president and a
bright financial picture was
painted by treasurer Russ Lin-
gard. Main stage profits for
the year were $54,353.
25 YEARS AGO
November 26, 1970 -A fire
that broke out Friday evening
completely destroyed the
Brucefield United Church.
Damage was estimated at
$150,000. An explosion in the
furnace room is suspected as
the cause of the blaze. The
church was built in 1908 at a
cost of $10,329 and served a
congregation of 300 persons.
At special ceremonies last
week, Susan Wooden re-
ceived the highest award that
can be attained by a Girl
Guide. Susan received her
Gold Cord from district com-
missioner Mrs. Bob Luxton.
Incumbent Lucan reeve
Ivan Hearn is being chal-
lenged for the position for
1971 by a member of present
council Harry Wraith.
35 YEARS AGO
November 26, 1960 - Edu-
cation Minister John Robarts
was the key speaker at
SHDHS when the auditorium
was filled to capacity by stu-
dents and spectators, Friday
afternoon, for the ceremony
officially opening the
$160,000 addition.
40 YEARS AGO
November 25, 1955 - Possi-
bility of a central public
school for McGillivray Town-
ship was discussed at a rate-
payers meeting in the township
hall, Monday night.
50 YEARS AGO
November 26, 1945 - Mr.
E.J. Wells recently returned
from overseas, has resumed his
old position with Jones and
MCea.

last week after spending some
time overseas.
Corporal Ross Guenther who
has served overseas for the
past three years, landed in New

November 27, 1920 -The
grounds around the library and
the town hall will be decorated
with some German guns cap-
tured during the war and which
have been received by Reeve
Beavers.
A junior farmer's judging
team comprising of Will
Smith, Elgin Rowcliffe and
Will Etherington was at
Guelph Winter Fair and took
part in the judging competi-
tion.
Messrs. Clarence Boltz-
mann, Hugo Schenk and Roy
Schenk of Crediton have re-
turned from the west where
they spent the past summer.
Goldie Cochrane of Kitchen-
er will manage the Exeter
OHA hockey team this winter.
Exeter has been without a
hockey team for several years.
100 YEARS AGO
November 28, 1895 - The
great annual sale at R. Pickard
and Son is coming soon. A full
front page advertisement ap-
pears in this week's issue of
the Exeter Times. "To be sacri-
ficed are 2,500 yards of dress
goods. We have put the knife
in deep. Some lines will be
sold at just half price. Fibre
chamois colors are going for
25 cents each."
Veterinarian Carr of Kirkton
dehorned 86 head of cattle for
farmers in Hibbert township in
a few hours Saturday last. Suf-
fice to say he is able to hold
his own with the best vets in
the country when it comes
down to business.
A man who goes to see a girl
twice a week and takes her to
an occasional entertainment, is
legally engaged to her, accord-
ing to a recent court decision.
The estimated gold output in
the territory of Alaska for the
year 1895 is three million dol-
lars.
Family honors retired health nurse TastyNu

SAINTSBURY - A recent recep-
tion and banquet was held at the
Lucan Community Memorial Cen-
tre where colleagues from the Mid-
dlesex -London Health Unit and
family members hosted a retire-
ment party for Patricia Dobbs. Fred
Dobbs III and Rev. Patricia ,Dobbs
Luxton humorously roasted their
mom and music was provided by
the string .quartet from Catholic
Central High School. Following a
variety program and speeches, Pat
was thrilled to accept a book of
memories and matching, engraved
lamps.
On Monday afternoon at Lucas
Secondary School in London, the
staff and students held a tea in hon-
or of Patricia Dobb's retirement.
Included in the program, special
music was performed by the stu-
dent choir. In recognition of Pat's
many years of service as a public
health nurse educator for London
and Middlesex County Boards of
Education, she was presented with
a picture and The Royal Doulton
Figurine for 1995.

ment from all her friends at St. Pat-

ry•
On Reign of Christ Sunday No-
vember 26, St. Patrick's held their
Morning Prayer service at 10:30
a.m. Margaret Carroll led in the
service from the Book of Alterna-
tive Services.
The opening hymn was "Wise
Men Seeking Jesus". The chil-
dren's focus was a question and an-
swer period of the last six Sundays
before the season of Advent. The
children's hymn was "Lord of the
Dance" and the Sunday School
children left for their classes.
Bob MacGillivray gave an excel-
lent message based on the readings
from Colossians "Christ is the Visi-
ble Image of the Invisible God".
Heather MacGillivray read the
scripture lessons.
The service closed with a hymn
"Wonderful Words of Life".
St. Patrick's will hold a commun-
ion service December 3 at 10:30
a.m. with the Rev. Stanley Jay as
officiant.
Rose Cunningham is feeling bet-
ter following several days of tests
at St. Josephs' Health Centre. Don
Cunningham and daughter Melissa
called on the Davis's Saturday eve-
ning.
St. Patrick's A.C.W. will hold
their December meeting and pot-
luck luncheon on Saturday, De-
cember 9 at 1:00 p.m. at the home
of Hazel Davis. Members are re-
minded to bring their items for the
less fortunate, to be delivered be-
fore Christmas.
Sympathy goes out to the family
of the late Viola Coates, who
passed away on the weekend, from
all the Dickin's relatives at St. Pat-
rick's and community.
Terry Davies was Saturday over-
night visitor with Katie -Scarlett
MacGillivray.
Starr Davis was weekend visitor
with Hub and Mary Thiel of Zu-
rich, and Sarah Walker visited with
the Michael Davis family.
St. Patrick's Christmas party is
set for December 17 following the
church service. Lunch will follow.
