Anyone wishing to come, contact Bob Stir- ling or Anna Keys by December 1. • Pastoral charge Members of Varna -Goshen pasto- ral charge were invited to the Cen- tennial United Church in Stratford this past Sunday for an afternoon of \ fun and fellowship. They enjoyed a tour of the Festival Warehouse fol- lowed by games and supper. Youth groups The Trends Youth Group will meet November 29 from 7:30 to 8:45 at the Brucefield Church. Trish and Paul McGregor are the leaders. They would like another person to.assist them. They are also seeking two people to give leadership to the Teen Set Youth Group. If you are interested call Miriam DeRivers at 233-31 10 or Paul Gilroy at 233-5755. Church services White Gift Service will be held in the Varna Church on December 3 followed by a potluck luncheon and a short Christmas concert. Brucefield United Church White Gift Service is DecemSer 10 at 7 p.m. and everyone is invited. Personals Bev and Shirley Hill hosted a family dinner party honoring George and Linda (Hill) Smith on - their 25th Wedding Anniversary. A special guest was Kathleen Hill of Bayfield who recently celebrated her 94th birthday. Heather and Valerie Laurie and Heather Beierling participated in three Santa Clause parades over the weekend with the Seaforth High School Band. Saturday morning they went to London and hack to Goderich for a 1:00 parade. They went to Toronto on Sunday. Next weekend they will be in the local Seaforth parade and in Brampton on Saturday. • Better value for taxpayer dollar EXETER - Provincial Auditor of Ontario Erik Peters and Helen Johns MPP, Huron both want to see better value for taxpayer's money. Premier Mike Harris and Johns made a commitment during the election campaign to bring real change to Ontario. They called for "smaller, smarter government, lower taxes, less spending. real welfare reform and more jobs." In his 1995 annual report, Peters states: "To survive. it will be necessary for programs, agencies and entire ministries to compete for resourc- es. Those that are most accounta- ble for their performance and can hest demonstrate their effective- ness will have a much better chance of surviving." The Harris government has al- ready taken steps to ensure taxpay- ers are getting better value for their money. The various minis- tries have already found 1.9 billion dollars worth of savings in their budgets. Peter's report dealt strictly with the actions the Bob Rae New Democrats when they were in power, yet echoes the goals of the Harris government. Peters told the .media, "I am pleased to note that the new government has taken ac- tion on many of our -recommenda- tions." Peter's report also stresses, "good government both justifies Council considers school board partnership GRAND BEND - The Lambton County Board of Education request- ed Grand Bend Council consider entering into a partnership with the school board during a council meeting Monday. • The school board is looking at ways to share the costs of its assets by enhancing the gym and information/resource facilities as a community centre at the Grand Bend Public School to meet the needs of the stu- dents and area residents. "There are a lot of things we need to look at in terms of cost accessi- bility, but we are considering the partnership to see if it makes sense for us to participate in it." said Mayor Cam Ivey. and reinforces public trust."
