Lucan humiliates Delhi in Ilderton
An Irish turkey shoot in Ilderton. Lucan beats
Delhi 16-3 on Saturday night in front of an
appreciative and noisy crowd of fans:
ILDERTON - After losing 4-2 to
Mount Brydges at home Wednes-
day night, the Lucan Irish re -
hounded with an uncanny 16-3 win
over Delhi the following Saturday.
Despite getting 42 shots on goal
the Irish couldn't seem to put the
puck in the net against Mount
Brydges who managed to get four
goals in 25 shots.
"We played a good game but we
just couldn't score. Their goaltender
was good," said head coach Scott
Bogart.
The Delhi game, played in Ilder-
ton Saturday night, was a turkey
shoot for the Irish who scored five
goals in the first and second period
and six in the third.
Mike Bodner and Christian Criel
had a hatrick each, Keith Robson
and Jeremy Jemec scored two goals
and Steve Mathews, Jeff Hudson,
Trevor Emms, Mike Robb, George
Stephens, and Darryl Boshart
scored singles. Everyone else on
the team except for the goalie add-
ed an assist.
"It was embarrassing for them
and for us," said Bogart about the
one sided game. "It was like we
were on the power play for the
whole game."
Indeed, the Delhi team didn't
look like they wanted to play.
Sloppy passes, give-aways in their
own zone, unfinished checks and
an overall lack of hustle made Del-
hi look like a rejected midget team
which will undoubtedly be the
joke -of -the -week in junior "D"
hockey.
"I told the team [the Irish) to pass
a little more and try a few things
we've been learning in practice but
are not ready to try against a good
team. But I think they took that as a
cue to pour it on and score more
goals," said Bogart.
The 16-3 romp over Delhi was a
treat for the Iiderton fans who only
get to see the Irish play in their are-
na once a year. A large number of
spectators turned out to see the
Irish humiliate Delhi and Bogart
said the fan support was greatly ap-
preciated.
"It's fun to play when the fans are
cheering and kids are hanging
around the dressing room asking
for autographs," said Bogart.

Exeter juveniles win and tie
Chris Skalkos T -A staff
EXETER - The Exeter Juvenile hockey team
are undefeated in two road games after beat-
ing Aylmer 4-1 Sunday and playing Cayuga to
a 4-4 tie Friday.
Derek Beckett struck first blood in the Ca-
yuga game, scoring minutes into the first pe-
riod with Scott Barllay, Ben Geiger and Rob
Kobayashi rounding out Exeter's goals. They
were assisted by Ben Geiger and Mark Gla-
vin.
After enjoying a two goal lead, Cayuga
came back with three unanswered goals and
tied the game in the third period sending Exet-
er back home with only one point under their
belts.
The game against Aylmer Sunday was a dif-
ferent story. Gavin Snell, who was absent for
the Cayuga game, led his team to victory with
one goal and two assists.
Snell got the scoring rolling early for Exeter
with his first period goal assisted by team-
mates Scott Barclay and Mark Glavin. He then
set up Steve Cook for a goal in the second pe-
riod and assisted Pres Lavier in the third.
Scott Rowe also scored for Exeter with an as-
sist from Ben Geiger.
Assistant coach, Jeff Playfoot said the
Aylmer game was a profound difference from
their last three games where the juvepiles,
have blown their lead in the second period.
"We should have won all of our games but
we have a habit of falling apart in the second
period," said Playfoot. "I thought we played a
more disciplined game against Aylmer. The
guys played well from start to finish."
Player Gavin Snell echoed Playfoot's com-
ments.
"We're a quick starting team but we have
trouble holding on to our lead," Snell said.
"It's just a matter of conditioning. We have to
take it upon ourselves to get conditioned so we
can play consistent hockey." he added.
Snell cautioned the game in Cayuga should
not set a precedent for the next time these two
teams meet. The unusually small ice rink in
the Cayuga arena was difficult to adjust to and
the two and a half hour drive took its toll on
the players.
"It will be nice to play them on the big ice.
You're going to see a different game," said
Snell referring to their re -match with Cayuga
on their home turf in Exeter Saturday night.
"We're going to be all over them."
Hawks keep the
win streak alive
14-0 Hawks play three games at
home after a five game road trip.
TAVISTOCK - The Exeter Hawks returned home after a five
game road trip unscathed, keeping their undefeated streak intact.
After defeating Tavistock 11-3 Friday and North Middlesex 6-4
Saturday, the Hawk's record now climbs to an unprecedented 14-0.
The game against Tavistock was a goal scoring frenzy as nine dif-
ferent Hawks contributed goals. Craig Corriveal and Stiayne Rob-
inson scored two each and Chris Kennedy, Steve Farquhar, Joey
McDonald, Geoff Maver, Sean Brown, Ryan Chamney and Jeff
Glavin chalked up a goal.
"We have between five and eight guys who are scoring for us all
the time and that's one of our biggest assets," said assistant coach
Jeff Dalrymple.
The 6-4 win over North Middlesex Saturday was a closer game as
the Stars matched the Hawks point for point right up until the third
period.
Nathan Burns scored the first goal for the Hawks followed by
Scan Brown who banged in two quick goals 18 seconds apart from
each other in the second.
Yet, the Hawks found themselves going into the third period down
by a goal as North Middlesex led 4-3.
Undiscouraged by the scoreboard, Exeter flew into the last period
undaunted with Shayne Robinson, Steve Farquhar and Sean
McCann scoring while goalie Darren Kints stood his ground be-
tween the pipes to edge the Stars by two goals.
"I wasn't worried [about losing the game]. I knew we would come
into the third period ready to play," said Dalrymple who was pulling
the strings behind the bench while head coach Dave Revington was
absent. "I didn't think it was our best effort but we managed to win
and keep the streak alive."
Hawk fans who have been going through withdrawal symptoms
will get their fix of Junior "D" hockey Friday night when Exeter
hosts Thamesford at the South Huron Recreation Centre, their first
home game in two weeks.
