Bean festival workers thanked
during free .smogasbord meal
An appreciation din-
ner was held Novem-
ber 19.

ZURICH - Sixty-five people at-
tended the Bean Festival Apprecia-
tion Dinner at the Dominion Tav-
ern on Sunday, November 19.
All those who helped at the last
bean festival enjoyed a free hot
beef and turkey smorgasbord meal.
Past president for four years, Doug
Erb, handed over the books to new
president Jody Durand. Secretary/
treasurer will be Cynthia Tripp.
The executive is still looking for
a first vice and someone to be in
charge of the entertainment. If any-
one is interested, phone Jody at
236-7374.
Phone books
Members of the Lions Club are
busy delivering the 1996 phone
books door-to-door in the Village.
If you don't get yours, phone
Lion president Louis Willert to see
if there are any left.
The Zurich and Area Figure
Skating Club are also delivering
phone books in Grand Bend.
A reminder to put your old books
'in the Blue Box for recycling.
Craft sale
Due to bad weather, the craft sale
at St. Peter's Church Hall was
changed to this Wednesday, No-
vember 22 at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is
welcome.

Nora Corriveau of the Spruce
Villa Apartments recently returned
home after spending two weeks in
London at the home of daughter
Rose and John Kelley and visited
with relatives in the area.
Several members of the Zurich
United Church went to Bayfield on
Saturday as guests of St. Andrews
church group, where they were en-
tertained at a talent and fellowship
night.
Everyone is invited to an open
house to help Percy Bedard Sr. cel-
ebrate his 80th birthday on Novem-
ber 26 at St. Boniface Parish Hall
from 2 to 5 p.m. Best wishes only.
It's nice to see Percy out for his
walks every day. He also stops in
for coffee and visits at J&L Variety
Store with his several friends.
Happy birthday wishes to Ann
McBride celebrating her 40th re-
cently; Marlene Bedard on Novem-
ber 13; Bridge Groot on November
20; and Jordyn Louise Cooper,
who was one year old on Novem-
ber 10. Jordyn's parents, Tim and
Donna Cooper held a birthday sup-
per for family and friends.
Mel and Mary Ellen Gingerich
visited recently with their daughter
Darla and Dean Miller in Michigan
to celebrate their grandson's fourth
birthday, Caleb Isaac, on Novem-
ber 15 and for Grandpa Mel on No-
vember 13.
The children and spouses of
Percy and Marie Bedard got to-
gether November 11 to help them
celebrate their 58th wedding anni-
versary, at their parents' home. The
actual date of their anniversary is
November 17.
Resident threatened by
break and enter thief
EXETER - Police have charged two males with breaking and enter-
ing and one of them has also been charged with threatening a resident
of a Main Street home on Nov. 13.
Charges were laid in a break and enter at the Golden City Restaurant
Nov. 13 including Break and Enter, Breach of Probation and Narcotics
Possession. Thieves had attempted to steal food when police arrived at
the scene.
A break and enter also occurred at Campbell's Appliances on Main
13tr+eet on Tiwrsd4 The suspects smashed the front window and stole --
televisions, stereo equipment, disc players, an equilizer, cassette player,
walkman and VCR.
In Ailsa Craig jewellery and hockey equipment was taken from a res-
idence on Friday.
Also, the Zion Lutheran Church in Dashwood reported the theft of a
VCR, two microphones and tapes a few weeks ago.
On Nov. 14 the theft of 40 to 50 used batteries from the rear of a
Main Street Exeter store was reported.
On Friday the Zurich LCBO was robbed of three cases of Crown
Royal and other assorted bottles of liquor.
On Saturday Designers, of Exeter, had shirts, pants and slippers sto-
len after the front door was smashed.

Christmas Bazaar and Tea
EXETER - Residents of the Exet-
er Villa have enjoyed a variety of
activities during November. The
Christmas bazaar and tea on No-
vember 4 was well attended. Win-
ners of the draw were June Essery,
Shirley Passmore and Doreen
Lightfoot.
Remembrance Day service was
conducted by Rev. Dan Roushorne
of Caven Presbyterian Church.
Ivan Norris and his musicians
were well received by a Targe group
at the monthly birthday party. Also
entertaining in the month of No-
vember were the Max Ducharme
•
band, the Fellowship Singers,
Dashwood, the Christian Reformed
Church choir, and the Grand Cove
Entertainers.
Upcoming on Tuesday, Novem-
ber 28, the Geri Fashions will set
up shop from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00
p.m. Seniors from the community
are welcome to come to the Villa to
shop for clothing.
The residents are looking forward
to December and the Christmas ac-
tivities. Carollers and entertainers
are welcome to the Villa at any

Harvest dance
A good time was had by those
who went to the St. Boniface K. of
C. Harvest Dance at the arena last
Saturday night with music by Mo-
zart's Melody Makers.
All enjoyed a smorgasbord
luncheon at midnight.
Lucky draw winners were Marie
Cyr who won a coffeemaker; Ken
Mittleholtz won a hand -made,
wooden magazine stand.
The hall was nicely decorated
with a theme of fall and harvest
time.
Bazaar
Lucky winners from draws made
at the recent bazaar held at St. Bon-
iface Parish Hall were Gertie Fleis-
chauer, who won a baby quilt made
and donated by Marcella Overholt;
Linda Regier, who won a doll and
hand -made doll clothes donated by
C. Lansbergen; Connie Masse and
Betty Grenier each won gift bas-
kets donated by Janet Soudant; and
Rose (Lee) Regier won a wall
hanging from Cecilia Farwell.
Golden Agers
The Golden Agers are now hav-
ing their afternoon meetings the
second Monday of each month at
the Township Hall. At their last
meeting all enjoyed hot soup and a
bag lunch at 12:30. After
O'Canada and the Lord's Prayer,
the minutes and treasurer's report
were read and accepted. The next
tri -county meeting will be in Lucan
Legion November 21.
They will be having another card
party on Monday, November 27 at
7:30 p.m. at the Hall.

be lunch and door prizes. Everyone
welcome.
The December meeting will be at
the Dominion Hotel at 4 p.m. with
dinner at 5 p.m. Gwen McKellar
conducted several games of bingo
followed by solo and euchre.
Quilters needed
Quilters are still needed for the
Hay Days quilt that is being created
by the Women's Institute.
If you can help, phone Ina Neeb
at 236-4752, Kay Hay at 236-4632,
or Mattie Smith at 236-4913. The
quilt is set up in the Hay Township
Hall.
Senior diners
• Zurich Senior Diners met No-
vember 15 at the Community Cen-
tre. Due to road conditions, enter-
tainment was cancelled. Ina Neeb
was the 50/50 winner. A poem
'Home Indeed' was read by Faye
Skinner. Solo and euchre games
followed.

Women's Institute held their No-
vember meeting at the home of
Donna Merner. Greg Archibald
from Bluewater Recycling Plant in
Huron Park was the speaker. He
showed the group what is accepta-
ble and what isn't for the blue box-
es. He also showed some recycled
products. One was fibrefill used in
jacket linings. He presented Donna
Merner with a cotton and polyester
T-shirt. The polyester is recycled
plastic. The "December meeting will
be a dinner at the Dominion Hotel
December 4. A lunch was served
by Donna and Gerry Kane.
