Your Views Letters to the editor Quality of hockey questioned "I mean no disrespect for A.E. teams, but they are that, "Addi- tional Entry" teams, meaning the second rep team from their centre." • Dear Editor: in response to an article written in your Novem- ber 8 edition concerning the Bill Batten Minor Hockey Tournament. I was puzzled to read and I quote "You're going to see some of the best `CC' hockey going...right here in Exeter" from Exeter mi- nor hockey president Don Richardson. And then to find that five out of eight teams in the Atom divi- sion were A.E. teams. I mean no disrespect for A.E. teams, but they are that. "Additional Entry" teams, meaning the second rep team from their centre. I un- derstand the concept first come, first in, rule as to who gets in the tournament. But in the O.M.H.A. sanction tournament list, yours was listed as hosting a tournament open to 'CC' to 'D' classification size centres, nowhere did it mention A.E. teams. In fact as I look further in the O.M.H.A. sanction tourna- ment list I see in December, Exeter is hosting tour- naments specifically for A.E. teams. Meanwhile some high calibre rep teams from Parkhill, Thed- ford, and yes, Stephen Township were told as early as October 6 the tournament was already full. I didn't realize it was full with Additional Entry teams, again five out of the eight teams. As a hockey coach and.executive member I would like however to pass on my respect and praise for the Exeter Minor Hockey Executive, coaches and volunteers, who attend endless meetings and hours of volunteer work to pull off a tournament of this magnitude. i appreciate that it is no easy chore, and I thank you on behalf of minor hockey everywhere for doing it. But in my opinion Exeter and area hockey fans were short-changed on some of that best 'CC' hockey going in the atom division of the tournament this year.
