South Huron
girls
basketball
season over
EXETER - The South Huron sen-
ior girls basketball team were elim-
inated from the Huron -Perth con-
ference contention after splitting a
double header with F.E. Madill
Secondary school last week.
The Panthers played their last
regular season game at Madill No-
vember 8 pulling out a tight 36-30
victory setting the stage for a
playoff game against Madill at
home the next day.
However, the second game
proved to be a heartbreaker as
South Huron lost by a mere four
points, 36-32, ending their season.
The game was to decide which
team would represent Huron -Perth
at WOSSA.
The midget girls basketball team
also saw action Thursday playing
two matches against St. Annes. .
After making it to the semi-finals,
the midgets were defeated 44-26.
Top scorers for the Panthers were
Christy Cruickshank, Cherisse
Knip and Jamie Reahurn with each
player scoring ten points each.
On Friday the junior girls basket -
hall team were defeated by F. E.
Madill 32-14.
Lisa Campbell lines up a free-throw for the South Huron sen-
ior girls basketball team. The Panthers were eliminated from
the H -P finals Thursday.
Exeter Hawks keep
winning streak going
Exeter jr "D" Hawks extended their win-
ning streak to 12 games with a pair of
wins over the weekend
Chris Skalkos T -A staff
EXETER - The Exeter Hawks extended their un-
defeated streak to 12-0 defeating Lambeth 4-2
Sunday and Seaforth 6-1 Friday night.
Shayne Robinson scored two goals against Lamb-
eth with assists from Sean McCann, Joey Mac-
Donald and Bill Hodge.
Ryan Chamney and Mark Livermore scored
Exeter's other two goals.
The six penalty minutes earned by
the Hawks playing Lambeth was a
sharp contrast from the 52 minutes
they gained playing Seaforth during Friday's
game. Seaforth clocked in 62 minutes in the penalty infested game
that turned ugly after the second period.
"They spent the last minutes of the game trying to beat us
up...that seemed to be the way they wanted to play," said head
coach Dave Revington. "The game was chippy throughout but it
got worse when we went up 4-1. After that they seemed more con-
cerned with trying to intimidate us."
The Hawks on the other hand were more concerned with scoring
goals and that's exactly what they did.
Chris Kennedy pumped in three goals for the hatrick, two of
which he scored in the first period assisted both times by Mac-
Donald and McCann.
Jeff Glavin also scored for the Hawks assisted by Robinson and
Sean Brown. Chamney and McCann rounded out the scoring with
assists from Chris McDonald, Jason Glavin and Greg Dalrymple.
With their gloves on or off. the Hawks are ready to defend their
winning streak as they continue their road trip playing Tavistock
Friday and North Middlesex Saturday.

South Huron junior boys
volleyball make WOSSA
MITCHELL - The South Huron
junior boys volleyball
team earned a berth in
WOSSA playoffs in the
Huron Perth finals
Thursday, held at Upper
Thames Elementary School.
During pool play the Pan-
thers defeated Stratford
Central 15-10, 15-8 and
St. Marys 15-10, 15-7.
Another dual victory
against Central Huron
15-8, 15-6 put them in
first place where they squared off
against St. Mikes in the Semi finals.
After defeating St. Mikes 15-9, 15-10
the Panthers took on F. E. Madill in the
finals losing 7-15 and 9-15.
Coach Scott Halpenny said the loss to.
Madill didn't make a difference since
his team still qualified for WOSSA.
"Madill was a powerful team and we were lacking
some players. If we had a full squad we would
have been more competitive," he said.
The Panther's undefeated 6-0 streak in regular
pool play exemplified the juniors talent and proved
they are a team to he taken seriously at WOSSA.

"The games we won were not very dose. we heat
those teams convincingly." said IFtalpenny. "The
guys really showed their volleyball skills in that
tournament."
Halpenny credits middle blocker Scott Reid who
was filling in for absent player Chad Dalrymple.
"He did an admirable job. Filling in for Chad at
the last minute was not an easy thing to do," he
said.
Luke Sims also hada strong per-
formance making some crucial
serves when needed the most. and
Darryl Romphf played solid de-
Jence.around the net.
"He made some key blocks shut-
ting the other teams down." added
Halpenny.
The juniors will head to Si..
Thomas this Saturday to compete
in WOSSA with a full squad and
Halpenny feels they will he con-
tenders, even though he is ex-
pecting some stiff competition.
"We're going to work on blocking and getting
better floor balance. If we can get this working
everything else will fall into place." said Hal -
penny.
"If we can
get this
working
everything
else will
fall into
place..."
