Betty Gurnell gave the opening worship reading from Thesalonians. She said life is a journey of joy and pain. In every- thing give thanks to God. Hymns "Love Divine" and "God of Grace" were sung with Irene Kennedy ac- companying at the piano. Lola Jackson gave a talk program on 'The Grace of God'. She asked the group to write down personal best times of their lives, difficult times and people who gave us cou- rage and to reflect on these. She said grace is a free gift as we are blessed with each lovely season of the year. President Loreen Gill conducted business. Roll call was answered by bringing in a stamped Christmas card for a someone sick or a shut- in. It was voted to send Mission money to several organizations, and to the Huron County Chil- dren's Aid Society. "Happy Birth- day" was sung for Irene Kennedy. Hazel Brood gave the nominating committee report. New officers are as follows: Past presidents Loreen Gill, Irene Ken- nedy; President Evelyn Johnson; Vice president Marlene Brenner; Recording secretary Bertie Keyes; Assistant secretary Lola Jackson; Treasurer Joan Love; Assistant treasurer Marg Love; Stewardship & Finance Marian Maguire; World outreach Hazel Brood; Christian development Ina Flewelling; Card secretary Annie Morenz. In keeping with Remembrance Day, President Loreen Gill read "How can we ever forget?" and Laura Flewelling closed with prayer. Church service At the November 12 service at Grand Bend United Church, the sermon topic by Rev. Robert Put- man was "Out of simple things comes faith". Scripture from Haggar 1:14-29 and Luke 20:27-38 were read by Lucy Sage. The children'sjtory by Rev. Put- man was demonstrated with a tape recorder. The choral anthem was "Pram - pin" (Spiritual) arr. H. Livingstone Jr. At the November 19 service will be an "Angel Tree", representing 31 children in care of Huron County Children's Aid. Families are asked to choose one and con- tribute a new toy, recreational item, or item of clothing for one of the children. Ages and sex of the child will be given. Euchre Grand Bend Golden Agers held their bi-weekly euchre party last Wednesday night, November 8 at the Legion Hall with eight tables in play. Winners were: Ladies high score Barb Davidson; Ladies low score Mary Cammaert; Ladies most lone hands Mary Moser, Men's high score Frank Cammaert; Men's low score Jan Van De Vooren; Men's most lone hands Hugh Mo- renz. The next euchre party will be held November 22. Former United Church Employee to appear in court SARNIA - A Grand Bend United Church employee charged with theft over $1,000 was scheduled to appear in gen- eral division court Tuesday. Cheryl Sue Pearen, formerly of Grand Bend, was charged in November 1992 for allegedly stealing $I51, 700 from the church where she was employed for five years. The assignment court was to determine a trial date which may be set for early 1996.
