Grace Drummond, president, opened the meeting with a poem about Autumn. Deanna Brock explained the Pal- liative Care Volunteer Program. She outlined the reasons for Pallia- tive Care and the care given. The volunteers have a two month train- ing course. To "palliate" means to ease the symptoms of an illness when the illness itself cannot be cured. Deanna also showed an in- formative video. The roll call was answered by telling what to take to a shut-in. It was decided the group would pur- chase a W.I. IOOth Anniversary History Book. Ruby Triebner gave a reading and a poem. Helen MacLean thanked all those taking part. The hostesses served lunch, a Thanks- giving treat, provided by Thea Wisch and Rena Caldwell. The next meeting will be the Historical meeting with Shirley Mousseau speaking about Hay Township's 150th special events. Hensall Legion will be holding their annual Poppy Drive, Novem- ber 2. Legion and Auxiliary mem- bers assisted by cadets will be canvassing door to door starting at 6 p.m. Sunday, November 5, the annual remembrance Day Service will he held at Carmel Presbyterian Church. Legion members are to meet at the Legion at 9:15 a.m., for the church parade. Saturday November 11, Hensall Legion will hold their regular Re- membrance Day banquet at the Hensall Community Centre. World War II vet "Jake" Cornish will be the guest speaker. Tickets are available from Legion members. Fifty year medals and service pins will he awarded at the dinner. The Poppy Remembrance Cam- paign is intended to remind Cana- dians of the debt they owe to the 114,000 men and women who died in military service in Canada dur- ing two world wars and the Korean War. Historical Society Friday evening, October 27, sev- eral members and friends of the Huron County Historical Society attended the dinner meeting held annually at Brucefield United Church, and catered by the church ladies. Mary Moffatt was the pia- nist for the evening. Favors : t the head table were miniature sacks of Hensall White Beans. Local draw prize winners were Ron Sanqua, Luanne Phair, Liz Sangster and Evelyn Mac Beath. The guest speaker, Steve Mayers, spoke on the Salt Industry in Huron and asked that anyone with any history on salt in Huron get in touch with him at the Huron County Museum. Hensall U.C.
