Jeff Glavin reacts to his late third period goal against the
North Middlesex Stars Friday night. The Hawks won 7-2.
Exeter Hawks
win third game
The Exeter jr "D" Hawks remain un-
defeated with 7-2 victory Friday night
EXETER - The Exeter Hawks ex-
ploded for five goals in the third
period to beat the North Middlesex
Stars 7-2 at the South Huron Rec-
reation Centre Friday night.
The game entered the third period
tied at two after both teams ex-
changed a couple of goals in the
first two periods. •
Goal scorers for the Hawks were
Nathan Burns and Ryan Chamney.
The last 20 minutes were a far
cry from the close end to end game
• the fans witnessed in the first two
periods.
Six power play opportunities and
quick line changes helped the
Hawks scorc five more goals as
they dominated the rest of the
game.
Burns scored his second goal of
the game 33 three seconds into the
third and Mark Livermore, Sean
McCann, Brian Gardner and Jeff
Glavin followed with the last Exet-
er goal finding the back of the net
with only two minutes left in the
game.
Goaltender Darren Knits frustrat-
ed the Stars throughout the game
turning away all but three scoring
opportunities from the visiting
team.
Barry Baynham, assistant coach
for the Hawks said the team has
only had three practices together
since final cuts were made and it
showed with off -the -mark passes
and scrambly play around the net.
"I think we need to wind down a
bit and play smarter, but it's still
early. It takes a while for the guys
to get used to each other," said
Baynham.
A problem with the zamboni
prevented the rink from being wa-
tered for the thiri period and the
Hawk coaching staff reacted by
making frequent line changes to
keep a fresh string of players on
the ice.
"When the ice is that heavy
players get tired faster so we tried
to make a line change every thirty
seconds," Baynham said.
The undefeated Hawks will try to
lengthen their winning streak when
they take on the visiting Mt. Brydg-
es team at the Rec Centre Friday
night.
After Friday's game, Baynham
said their offence has potential but
the Hawks still need to strengthen
their defense.
"The defensmen should stand up
and bump more," said Baynham.
"We still have a lot of work to do,
but it's nice to get off to a 3-0
start."
