Huron Board of Ed opposes recommendations
CLINTON - The Huron County
Board of Education continues to
oppose the recommendations for
the amalgamation of school boards
as the most appropriate solution
for reducing the cost of education.
It is the position of trustees that the
expansion of partnerships with
other school boards, the municipal-
ities and service agencies will lead
to real savings in the administra-
tion costs for delivering education

The Board has embarked on real
efforts to increase its collaboration
with the local Roman Catholic
Board and the Perth County Board
of Education through the establish-
ment of a 'tri -board steering com-
mittee' to explore and enact such
options. The Board has also made
overtures to local municipalities
and the County of Huron in re-
spect of expanding working part-
nerships in areas such as purchas-
ing and other administrative
services where conihined efforts
might lead to lower spending lev-
els for each party.
The recommendations in the
Sweeney Report which place a pri-
ority on education finance reform
would he most helpful to the Hu-
ron Board and to its property tax-
payers. Access to a fairer share of
tax dollars from the commercial
assessment base would ensure that
the children and young persons in
our schools have more equal ac-
cess to learning resources than the
current tax Kase can afford.
The Huron Board is among the
lowest spending in Ontario -- on a
