Installation of officers
The Pride of Huron Rebekah Lodge installation of officers for 1995-96 was held last Wednesday night at the Lodge Hall. Pic-

THAMES ROAD - The Thanks-
giving meeting of the UCW was
held on Monday evening in the
Church basement. The meeting ta-
ble was covered with the UCW
embroidered tablecloth, horn of
plenty, many different fruit and
vegetables, colored leave etc.
which was a very pretty setting for
the meeting of which the theme
was "Thanksgiving" given by
Karen Etherington who welcomed
everyone. A poem "Early Au-
tumn" was given by Doris Elford.
Joanne Maguire of Hayter Tur-
key Farm, Dashwood and her
mother Mrs. Hayter were intro-
duced. Joanne conducted a contest,
Turkey Terminology which was
quite interesting. She spoka on dif-
ferent kinds of turkey meat that is
sold from their store. Draws were
made and the lucky winners were,
Helen Hodgert, Agnes Bray, Jean
Hodgert and Beatrice Dawson.
Anne Kernick thanked Joanne and
presented her with a gift. The
women sang "County Your Bless-
ings". Karen Etherington read the
Scripture Psalm 65: 8-13.
A reading "Let A Smile By My
Umbrella" was given by Doris El-
ford. The offering was received by
Anne Kernick and Doris Elford
with Offertory prayer by Kay Cun-
nington. A reading "Orange Orb of
Autumn" was given by Kay Cun-
nington.
A reading "Love Fits Fine In A
Brown Paper Bag" was given by
Anne Kernick.
The women sang "Thank You",
and Karen Etherington closed the
worship service with a Thanksgiv-
ing Prayer.
Margaret Stewart, president,
opened the business part of the
meeting with a poem "Which kind
are you?"
The roll call was answered with
each member bringing vegetables,
fruit etc. to help decorate the audi-
torium of the church. Everyone
sang Happy Birthday to Kay Cun-
nington which was her birthday.
Minutes were read, correspon-
dence was dealt with, treasurers re-
port, manse report, managers re-
port, card report were received. Ju-
dith parker of the redecorating
committee stated that the rest of the
blinds and carpet htive been or-
dered.
At the November meeting we are
to bring in the reports, and the
nominating committee are to bring
in slate of officers for 1996.
The group sang "The Church in
the Valley" and Margaret closed
with a prayer "i Thank Thee."
Sunbeams
Sunbeams met for their Thanks-
giving meeting on Thursday. The
strong winds that day blew in 25
toddlers and three babies with their
mothers for a loud but enjoyable
morning. The children made plastic
hanging pumpkins, pretty Hal-
lowe'en suncatchers, and colored a
picture of a turkey. AH joined in on
songs, and a story of "What we
thank God for." As well a game of
Ring Around the Turkey was
played. Much fellowship was
shared during snack lime. Just a re-
minder that Sunbeams is held the
first Thursday of the month (Sep-
tember - June at 9:30 a.m.) at
Tharhes Road Church and every-
one is welcome.
• Messengers
Messengers had a stormy start
with hurricane Opal going through
that night but despite the wind and
rain, 11 kids joined together to cel-
ebrate Thanksgiving Thursday
night at Elimville Church. Pump-
kins, turkeys, and scarecrows were
crafted, and a game of bobbing for
apples was enjoyed by all.
Messengers meet once a month
during the fall and winter.
' The Thames Road-Elimville Hal-
lowe'en party will be held Friday
October 27 at 6:30 - 8 p.m. Parents
are asked to bring pot luck sand-
wiches and cookies. Anyone able
to help decorate or serve snacks
please contact Carolyn Johns.
Church service
Rev. Jim Allsop was in charge of
the Thanksgiving Sunday Church
Service. The church was decorated
with corn stalks, corn, vegetables,
fruit, colored leaves and chrysan-
themums etc. which added a lot to
the service. Thanks to the decorat-
ing committee.
The choir sang "The Sacrifice of
Joy" accompanied by the organist
Jean Hodgert. The children's hymn
"All Things Bright and Beautiful"
was sung and Rev. Allsop told the
children a story "Happy and Sad".
The Scripture lesson from the Old
Testament Deuteronomy 26: 1-11,
and from the New Testament Phi-
lippians 4: 4-9 was read by Mary
Lou Bilcke. Rev. Allsop read a M
& S blur), "Barefoot Doctors." Hc
also read from the Gospel of John
6: 25-35. The title of his sermon
was "Our Need For Joy".
The closing hymn "Now Thank
We All Our God."
Coming events
Next Sunday October 15 the
Thames Road United Church anni-
versary service will be held at 11
a.m. The guest speaker will he
Rev. Gwen Brown of Exeter. Spe-
cial music by Eric Kints and the
choir. Lunch will be served after
the service. Everyone welcome.
Sunday October 22 will be Elim-
ville United Church anniversary at
10 a.tn.

fery visited on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday supper guests with Glenn,
Marilyn and Tammy Rohde.
Dave and Brenda Moran, Bren-
dan and Alyssa of Toronto, Ron
and Wendy Earle and Robbie of
London were Thanksgiving Sun-
day guests with Lorne and Pat Bal-
lantyne.
Thanksgiving dinners enjoyed
Friends and families got together on the week-
end in Saintsbury.

SAINTSBURY - St. Patrick's celebrated their Morning Prayer Service
on Thanksgiving Sunday October 8 at 10:30 a.m. Margaret Carroll led the
service from the Book of Common Prayer. Hugh Davis read the Scripture
Readings. The children's focus was taken from the scripture and tells of
the Jewish celebrations of Thanks, and a story of the Land of Thank -A:
Lot. Following the children's prayer and hymn they went to their classes.
The Holy Gospel was read and the message was taken from John 6:25-35
"Two kinds of Bread".
Arnold Cunningham and Heather MacGillivray sang a duet during the
offering. The service closed with "Breath on me, breath of God."
Sunday, October 15, 19th after Pentecost, St. Patrick's will celebrate
their Harvest Thanksgiving Holy Communion service at 10:30 a.m. Rev. ,
Stan will he the officiant.
A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the service in the
Parish Hall.
Personals
Mary and Hazel Davis visited relatives and friends Mary Brown,
Blanche Walters, Viola Coates, ricorgina Dobbs and Gote Wennerstrorn at
the Exeter Villa on Thursday.
Mary Davis was Thanksgiving dinner guest on Saturday evening with
Bob and Heather MacGillivray and family, on Sunday with Bob and Alex-
ia Tindall and family and Monday with Hugh and Hazel and family.
Suzanne Davis, Crystal, Travis and Starr were Sunday dinner guests
with mother Dorothy Dietrich and family.
Ron and Margaret Carroll entertained their family on Sunday for
Thanksgiving dinner.
Harley Davis travelled to Parry Sound on Sunday but the 60 cc race was
cancelled due to rain.
