Davis SAINTSBURY - The Davis's have returned from a holiday visit- ing relatives and friends in Michi- gan and Indiana. They also attend- ing a Converted Coach Owners Rally along with several other coaches from the area at Veteran's Memorial Park in Bay City, Michi- gan. They enjoyed a "River of Time" Living History Encampment which included Colonial and Civil War reenactments, Military Tattoo and Candlelight Walk. On Saturday evening at St. Pat- rick's Parish Hall, a large crowd of relatives, friends and neighbors gathered to honor Ross and Audrey . McFalls following their move from the second of Biddulph to their new residence in Lucan. Everyone was welcomed by Rose . Cunningham followed by lots of visiting and a wonderful evening of Country Music supplied by frienils Doug, Jack, Charlie, Don, Harvey, Ross, and Arnold. A poem was giv- en by Heather MacGillivray depict- ing their lives through verse, fol- lowed by Rose Cunningham thanking everyone and presenting Ross and Audrey with a gift of money. The McFalls's expressed their thanks to Rose for organizing the evening and to all who assisted to make their evening so special. Cof- fee and goodies was the ending for a perfect party. Harley Davis had another big weekend, winning a first place tro- phy at R.J. Motosport Park, Barrie on Sunday in the 60 cc Fall Series. St. Patrick's St. Patrick's celebrated their Holy Communion Service at 10:30 p.m. with the Rev. Stan Jay as offi- ciant on October I. The procession- al hymn was "Joyful, joyful, we adore thee" followed by a chit- ' dren's focus about a rich man and Lazarus. Following the hymn "Wonderful words of life" the Sunday School children went to their classes. Mar- garet Carroll and Rose Cunning- ham read the scripture readings. The message was based on the Holy Gospel. Courtney MacGillivray and Crys- tal Davis were servers for the ser- vice. The closing hymn followed the Eucharist, 'Breathe on my breath of God'. A time of fellowship and refresh- ments followed in the Parish Hall. Sunday, October 8, Thanksgiving Sunday, St. Patrick's Morning Prayer service wiil,,be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, October 15. St. Patrick's will celebrate their Harvest Thanksgiving Service at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Stan Jay is to he the ofliciant for the Holy Communion Service. A Harvest Thanksgiving Dessert Euchre and Bake Sale is to be held Tuesday, October 31, at 1:00 p.m. Church group collecting stamps Annie Morenz GRAND BEND - The United Church Women of Grand Bend would appreciate any donations of used stamps. These stamps are sent to the Canadian Bible Society. Each pound of stamps is worth $4.50. These funds help their work in the former Yugoslavia where 5,000 Bibles have been sent to Ser- bian soldiers in Bosnia- Herzegovina and 25,000 New Tes- taments to the Serbs in the war zone, with 50,000 copies to Croats and refugees in Croatia. Church services The sacrament of infant baptism was held at Grand Bend United Church on Sunday, September 24,. when Laura Margaret , Miller, daughter of Vicki and Steve Miller was baptized by Rev. Robert Put- man. The sponsors were Vicki's sister, Patti Soer, and Steve's broth- er, Freddie Miller. • The sermon topic was "Mercy and Justice: the Unjust Steward", with scriptures from I Timothy 2:1- 7, and Luke 6: 1-13 read by Bob Southcott. Rev. Putman's story to the chil- dren was about belonging and bap- tism, with the children's hymn "The wise may bring their learn- ing". The anthem sung by the choir was "The wonder of it all". World Wide Communion was celebrated at Grand Bend United Church on Sunday, October 1, with Rev. Robert Putman presiding. The children's story was about "What can you do with a penny?" Their song was "The magic pen- ny", accompanied by Rev. Putman playing a guitar. Scriptures were from I Timothy 6:6-19 and Luke 16:19-31 read by Jack Southcott. The choir anthem was "This is the feast" accompanied by Norma Abbot at the piano. Winners were: Ladies high - Wilma Englehart, Ladies low - Verna Lovie, Most lone hands - Reta Bradford, Men's high - Ray Quantrill, Men's low won by Mary Van de Vooren playing a man's card, Most lone hands - a tie be- tween Ralph Bradford and Hugh Morenz.
