`Education' theme at Staffa WI meeting

forms of schooling.

STAFFA - Education was the
theme of the September meeting of
the Staffa Women's Institute, held
in the township hall on Wednesday,
September 27 at 1:30 p.m.
Margaret Kemp planned the
meeting and set up a display show-
ing the different forms of schooling
available and focused on this in her
address. She said that education be-
gins early in life and continues on,
well into the senior years.
Long before schools, children
were taught at home, mainly by
watching their parents go about
their everyday chores. Today
50,000 children are taught at home.
Nancy Dearing told the group
about their experience with the Syl-
van learning centre in London and
how it had helped a member of
their family. Marie Visscher told
about their children attending a
Christian school at Sebringville,
where they have found that ti.eir
children got more individual atten-

charter schools were also discussed
by Margaret. This was a very edu-
cational and learning meeting for
everyone present. President Joyce
Miller presided and after welcom-
ing our members and guests,
opened with the Institute Ode and
Mary Stewart Collect. Minutes of
the previous meeting were read and
approved and the treasurer's report
showed a substantial balance on
hand.
Roll call was answered by read-
ing or reciting a favorite piece of
poetry.
During business, members dis-
cussed at length the flowers for the
tables at the Area Convention on
October 20. Kay Smale volun-
teered to look after them. The letter
opener fund raisers were on dis-
play. Roberta volunteered to get
tickets for those wishing them.
Following the meeting a lunch
was served by Kay Smale and
Edna Burchill.
A large crowd attended the open
house at Staffa Hall on Sunday af-
ternoon honoring Bill and Freda
Kerslake on their 30th wedding an-
niversary.
A horse show was held at the
McCaughey Stables on Sunday
with a good crowd in attendance.
Beany and Beany 1 1/2 were spe-
cial guests at the Sunday Scheel
Rally Day at Cromarty on Sunday.
Sunday School children participat-
ed in the service and the Junior
Choir sang. The attendance awards
were presented.
Following the service, everyone
was invited to lunch in the base-
ment prepared by the Marion
Ritchie W.M.S.
The session and search commit-
tee of Cromarty Presbyterial
church are pleased to announce that
the Presbytery of Stratford -Huron
has approved Cromarty's call to
Kevin Steeper, to the ministry of
Cromarty Presbyterian Church. He
will he inducted into Cromarty
church on Wednesday, October 18
at 8 p.m.
