Panthers sweep HP
conference home opener
South Huron seniors, juniors and midget boys volleyball
teams overwhelm visiting Goderich and Clinton teams
EXETER - All three South Huron
boys volleyball teams squared off
against Goderich and Clinton on
Thursday to begin their Huron -
Perth Conference schedule.
The senior team confidently won
all three games against Clinton 15-
6. 15-4 and 15-13 but struggled
against the strong Goderich team
winning the first game 15-8 and
losing the second 5-14.
The seniors took the third and de-
ciding game 15-13 in an intense
game marked by long rallies and
strong hits from both sid
"It was close. They
[Goderich] are a very
good team, no doubt
about that," said coach
Joe Jankowski. "The
boys were lulled into
a sense of com-
placency because they
won the first game so
easily, but the mo-
mentum can change
very quickly in vol-
leyball and I think

they
underestimated Goderich," he
said explaining their
only loss of the day.
Setter . Blake Schade
consistently set his
teammates with good
balls and Adam Jean
played a strong game
digging balls out of the
back court. Bryan
McAllister played smart
around the net making a
few key blocks for the
Panthers.

said they
still need to work on back court
coverage, two-man blocking and
serving.
"Serving seemed to be a dif-
ficulty." he said noting that he
watched five serves go into the net.
The Panthers will try to iron out
these weaknesses before they meet
Seaforth in an away game on Oc-
tober 5. The South Huron boys
volleyball team finished second
overall last season but were elim-
inated in the Huron Perth playoffs
before the semi-finals.
The South Huron boys midget
and junior teams also played
Thursday winning all three of their
games. The midgets needed to go
into extra points to beat Goderich
16-14 in the second game but easi-
ly took the first and third games
with scores of 15-7 and 15-9. They
had a much easier time beating
Clinton easily 15-9, 15-5 and 15-8.
The junior team also had an easy
time defeating Clinton taking all
three games convincingly 15-2. 15-
7 and 15-4. Goderich didn't pose
much of a threat either as South
Huron won 15-9. 15-6 and 15-13.
Both the Juniors and the midgets
are coached by Scott Halpenny.
