Massage therapy
receives wider
acceptance
EXETER - Main Street is growing as a health care haven and the
number of practitioners is increasing further with the addition of a
new registered massage therapist.
Rebecca (Becci) Farquhar opened her massage therapy clinic Oct.
2 at 502 Main St. S. (Rear). Farquhar recently graduated from the
D'Arcy Lane Institute in London where she was required to spend
2,200 hundred hours in study plus an additional 100 hours involved
with outreach programs.
Farquhar became aquainted with other local massage therapists
through her education at D'Arcy Lane and they have worked togeth-
er setting standard rates.
"We would rather not compete against each other," said Farquhar.
Farquhar's rates are $35 for one hour and $20 for a half hour of
treatment. And although the office is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m.
until 5 p.m., hours will he flexible to accommodate people who can't
schedule appointments during weekdays.
Farquhar said the reception she's received from the medical com-
munity has been excellent. Already, two clients have been referred
from local doctors.
Although there are now four massage therapists in town, there are
very few in the surrounding areas and Farquhar expects there will be
enough clients to go around.
"Other therapists arc turning people away. They can't get an ap-
pointment right away," said Farquhar.
Some of the injuries Farquhar has treated include low hack pain,
shoulder and knee injuries. While she enjoys working with athletes.
the variety of clients keep the job interesting.
