Fall Fair
attracts both
young and old
The lights and sounds of the Exeter Fall Fair Came alive at night as people enjoyed the midway rides. The ferris wheel was one of the main attractions.
EXETER - Exeter hosted its annual fall fair over the weekend but
despite the favorable weather conditions and the variety of displays
and activities. revenue at the gates was down from last- year by
5g .
Cathy Scip. 1995 fair president said the International Ploughing
Match being held close by in Ayr may have contributed to the drop
in attendance. however. this scar's fair seemed to attract a wide va-
riety of age groups.
"Fairs attract old and the young alike and this year we certainly
had a good mix of ages." said Seip.
Events such as GAWOR, Group Activity with Outrageous Results
organized by South Huron Student Council and performances by
young musical groups from the arca such as New Life Crisis and
Sound Advice provided attractions for the teenagers who usually
skip the midway rides and other displays.
"The hands were popular because they were local. Everybody is
glad to see local talent. it brings community spirit." said Seip.
Among the many exhibits and activities. the horse-drawn hay
rides and the wildlife show proved to be the most popular. especial-
ly among children, and drawing the biggest crowds.
One of the highlights of the weekend took place on Friday night
with the crowning of this year's -Fair Ambassador. Judges had a dif-
licult time choosing a winner from the nine young contestants but
when the decision was made Michelle Ducharme, last year's am-
bassador. crowned 17 year-old SHDHS student Jennifer McNeilly
sponsored by MacLean's Home Hardware as the new Exeter Fall

building. There were over 250 birds entered in the Judging
contest.
Fair Amhassador.
"Focus on Farm Machinery" was this year's theme which was ev-
ident in the festive parade of floats that made their way down Main •
Street on Saturday. Antique tractors joined state-of-the-art com-
bines, demonstrating to people who Tined the parade route. the me-
chanical advancements in farm machinery.
"The parade was one of the biggest 1 have seen in quite a few
years." said Seip adding that organizers were accepting entries up
until the last minute.
Don Pullen. former agriculture representative for Huron County
was asked to officially open the fair. His remarks Friday night cred-
ited the ever evolving farm machinery that has helped mold ag-
riculture in Huron County into the multi-million dollar industry it is
today.
