Fury conclude
regular season
EXETER - The Exeter Fury con-
cluded the regular season Sunday
with a 4-1 loss to St Thomas. Need-
ing to win the game by three goals
to make the playoffs, the Fury fell
behind early and by halftime were
down 2-0. Exeter did have its
chances in the first half with Ryan
Hern dribbling the ball around two
St. Thomas defenders and blasting
a shot which the goalie managed to
save.
In the second half the Fury im-
proved their play and managed to
get some good scoring chances
even though the game was already
decided. Trailing 4-0 Dave Boer -
ma sent an excellent cross to Tom
Westerveld who only had to head

the ball into the open side for the
Fury's lone goal of the afternoon.
Mark Brintnell played a strong
game for Exeter using his speed to
run down balls sent through the
middle while Greg Lamport and
Justin O'Rourke played solid
games on defense.
"We had a very good season but
it takes that little bit extra to make
the playoffs. It's tough. We can
look back over the summer at
games we let slip away that defi-
nitely hurt us in the long run," said
coach Jason McFalls.
The loss dropped the Fury to
sixth place in the east division with
a record of 10-8-2.
