After los- ing their opening game in London on Friday the Express played three strong games at home before being eliminated by Thorold in the semi- finals. The Express were handed a 10-8 defeat by a weak Walsinham team in the first game of the tournament. Pitcher Scot Russell was relieved by Mark Glavin and Paul Elston after a poor start. Exeter was outhit 12-5 and trailed 9-1 before they rallied in the six and seventh in- nings to narrow the score. In the second game, the Express exploded for eight runs in the sev- enth inning to defeat Little Britain 13-6. Rick Boon pitched for al- most five innings before being re- lieved by Mike agnew after al- lowing six runs. Led By Don Macdonald and Fred Gregus, who each had three hits, exeter outhit Little Britain 16-3. Marty Merner pitched his best game of the year in the third round against pre -tourney favorites Wil- kesport. He struck out six batters in just over five innings before run- ning out of gas. Boon finished off the pitchir.g du- ties in the seventh. Paul Smith smacked a home run out of the park and he was backed up with consecutive hits from Boon, Russell, Gregus and Dave Russell. The final game pined Exeter against a powerful hitting and un- defeated Thorold team who wasted no time chalking up three runs. the Thorold pitcher held Exeter to only three hits, two of which were by Smith. With two men on base in the seventh inning, it seemed as if Ex- eter was poised to tie the game; however, a fly out by Agnew dashed any hopes of a comeback. The Express finish the season with a respectable 22-12-1 win/ loss/tie ratio. Hosting the OBA championship tournament in Exet- er was a good way for the Express to end the season. Their games were attended by a fair number of supportive fans who enjoyed a high calibre of baseball over the weekend. Coach/Manager Doug Fairbairn, coach Joe Fullop and the rest of the Exeter Express baseball club are looking forward to another suc- cessful season next year. 1995 Exeter Express Statistics Batters Fred Gregus Don Macdonald Scot Russell Marty Merner Rick Boon Rob Dickey Mike Agnew Mark Russell Paul Smith Pete Heeney Ron Elliott Dave Russell Bill Glover Barry Baynham Bill Shore Mark Glavin Paul Elston Pitchers Fred Gregus Don Macdonald Dave Atthill Paul Elston Ron Elliott Marty Merner Rick Boon Scot Russell Mike Agnew Mark Glavin Dave Russell Paul Smith Mark Russell Avg. .478 .413 .412 .397 .379 .376 .375 .373 .337 .293 .282 .263 .255 .222 .217 .207 .000 OBA .520 .457 .460 .453 .433 .470 .412 ,456 .382 .356 .398 .393 .255 .300 .333 .324 .000 W L 0 0 0 0 0 2 1 0 0 4 1 6 3 4 4 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 AB 69 75 114 78 95 85 16 59 98 41 78 76 47 36 23 29 2 R H HR 18 39 0 20 31 1 20 47 5 14 31 2 20 36 1 23 32 0 5 6 0 16 22 0 18 33 2 6 12 0 15 22 2 16 20 3 5 12 1 6 8 0 6 5 0 2 6 0 0 0 0 ERA G IP H BB 0.00 1 3.2 2 1 0.00 2 3.0 1 1 0.00 1 2.0 0 0 2.25 6 22.2 25 9 2.53 4 10.2 11 11 2.73 7 33.0 35 9 2.80 9 54.2 57 15 3.57 Il 63.0 60 30 44 4.22 5 10.2 6 7 10 4.50 8 14.0 17 5 7 5.40 7 10.0 15 8 3 14.10 4 7.2 13 11 2 18.00 1 1.0 2 1 0 RBI 14 13 38 15 22 25 7 17 13 5 21 18 3 6 6 0 SO 4 4 3 6 7 26 23 Sand bowl fundraiser GRAND BEND - J.
