Perth County Plowing
Plowing match in Hibbert
The Perth County
Ploughing Association is
anticipating a large crowd for
the Perth County Plowing
Match.
With the current weather
conditions, organizers are
hoping early small grains and
second -cut hay harvest will
mean farmers will have their
work done and be able to
attend the event.
The annual event is planned
for Saturday, August 26 at the
farm of Perth Warden Walter
and Sandy McKenzie. Their
farm is located two and one
half miles south of Mitchell
via Highway 23 then two
miles west on Lot 4,
Concession 4 where both sod
and stubble are available for
ploughing.
A highlight of the annual
event is the Queen of the
Furrow competition. The win-
ner represents the county at
the International Ploughing
Match the following year.
Lisa Elliott, of Mitchell, rep-
resented the county this past
year. She said her role is to
inform others about plough-
ing.
"I don't think people realize
how important ploughing is,"
said Elliott.
The team of Clydesdales
owned by Gordon
Colquhoun, of Hibbert
Township, have been a part of
the event for the past fours
years and will return again
this year.
On the request of the Perth
County Junior Farmers, a
competitive class with the
horse-drawn plough. It will be

group.

es, there are several novelty

plough, including classes for
politicians, fair board and ser-
vice club representatives, and
for anyone who would just
like to plough.

presented at 5:15 p.m. The
Perth Junior Farmers will
cater the barbecue for the sec-
ond year from 3:30 p.m. to
