HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes Advocate, 1995-08-16, Page 16Page 16, Times-Ail('ucah', August 16, 1995 SPnRTS 375 cyclists pedal for Multiple Sclerosis Society Cyclists raise $150,000 in annual Noranda bike tour GRAND BEND - Over 375 cyclists pedalled 150 kilometres to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis on Saturday and Sunday. The cyclists were participating in the fifth annual Noranda Forest MS Bike Tour; a round trip from Grand Bend to London that will raise a projected $150,000. The tour started at Port Blake Con- servation Arca at 8 a.m. Saturday. and stopped at the Saugeen Mait- land Residence at the University of Western Ontario before returning to Grand Bend the next day. Each rider paid a $55 registration fee and have pledges equalling $250 or _more. MS is a disease that affects the central nervous tem. All the money raised will go towards the Multi- ple Sclerosis Society of Canada to support MS pa- tients and fund medical research striving to find a cure. Lori Anne McNulty, special events co- ordinator for the MS Society said the event at- tracted a wide range of people. Cyclists from 12 to 70 years of age showed up for the tour which takes the average rider three to four hours. McNulty said some of the riders made the trip in just over two hours. More bike tours have been sched- uled across the province and the Brampton to Guelph tour boasts up to sys- 1,000 cyclists. SIo-pitch 95 South Huron.
