CATHARINES - Two Exeter Girls won silver medals -at the On- tario Junior Championships in St. Catharines August 6. . Andrea Weigand (skip), and Lau- ra Pearson of the Exeter Lawn Bowling Club defeated a London team 14-10 and tcaln from Dunn- ville 12-9. In a third game against Ottawa the girls came up short succumbing to a close 11-9 loss forcing a seven end playoff with the same Oshawa team for the gold medal. Thc girls had a very close game being down at one point 6-5 in the last end and giving up one shot to lose hy two in the final game. Wei- gand and Pearson had to settle for the second place silver medal in the Ontario finals. Hockey training camp coming to Lucan LUCAN - Anyone wanting to get in shape for the hockey season can get a head start hy attending a power skating and hpckey'skill y training camp in Lucan beginning Monday, Aug. 28. Imperials eliminated EXETER - Exeter imperials were eliminated from their Ontario Jun- ior Men's Fasthall League 'B' divi- sion semi-final series with Mitchell Chiefs in three straight games as they dropped a 9-4 decision in Mitchell last Thursday. . For the second straight game, Ex- eter built up an early lead only to sec it evaporate due to shoddy fielding and an experienced Mitch- ell offence. The imperials jumped to a 3-0 lead in the second inning as Chris McDonald led off with a single and scored on a triple by pitcher Steve Cook. Steve Farquhar followed with a run scoring single and later scored on a fielder's choice. After Mitchell narrowed the gap to 3 to 2 in the bottom of the sec- ond, Greg Dalrymple led off the third inning with a long horns run to improve the margin to 4-2. Mitchell then scored a run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead and added four more runs in the sixth, three of which were unearned. Scan McCann, Glenn Hines and Jeremy Mason also added hits 10 round out the Exeter offence. Losing pitcher Steve Cook went the distance, allowing nine runs, five earned, on six hits. Cook struck out 12. walked two and also hit a batter. The Imperials played the second game of their best of three W.O.A.A. playoff series with Shakespeare last night with Shake- speare leading the series 1 to 0. The imperials over-all regular season, playoff and exhibition record was eight wins, 11 losses and two tics. They were among the youngest teams in the league with eight players still eligible to com- pete at the midget level. No players will go over -age in 1996.
