Cyclist
expected to
raise
$1 million
Exeter Golf Club
TORONTO - More than 2,500
people are running up their bicy-
cles and raising pledges to partici-
pate in the Noranda Forest MS
Bike Tours this summer. The goal
this year is to raise $I million for
multiple sclerosis research and
services.
These premier Ontario cycling
events have grown from one bike
tour in 1989 to the current six tour
seasons. In just six years, the No-
randa Forest MS Bike Tours have
raised more than $6 million. This
year between August 19 and Sep-
tember 17, participants can choose
from one or two-day cycling ad-
ventures in Toronto, Niagara, Wa-
terloo, Grand Bend, Ottawa and
the King City/Vaughan region.
"The reason the. Ontario events
have grown so rapidly is that we
offer tours for people of all ages
and levels of experience, appealing
to both occasional cyclists and the
more energetic and experienced
types," said Don Aitken, Ontario
Fundraising Chair for the MS Soci-
ety. "And there is live entertain-
ment and a barbecue party after
each event celebrating everyone's
hard work for such a good cause."
One of last year's participants,
Toronto designer and retailer Marci
Lipman, is looking forward to rid-
ing for MS again this year.
"The camaraderie at the finish
line party was really heart-warming
and everyone had a great time. You
don't have to he a serious cyclist,
you just have to like having fun,"
Lipman said.
For registration information, con-
tact the MS Society at 1-800-268-
7582.
