Juveniles poised to take
WOBA championship
EXETER - The Exeter Juveniles
baseball team split a pair of games
with Wyoming winning away 5-2
on Sunday and losing 7-3 at home
on Thursday.
Denis McCann got his first start
pitching on Sunday and delivered a
solid performance going the dis-
tance. He allowed only five hits
backed up by some good defensive
plays behind him. Dale Hopf
played a strong game catching for
McCann.
Darren Knits continued to swing
a big bat with a double and a sin-
gle, Darryl Hartman and James
Rolph both doubled. Dale Hopf and
Jo Maskell singled.
In Thursday's game, Knits
pitched for four innings striking out
three and walking six batters al-
lowing six hits. Hartman finished
the game striking out one hatter,
walking two and allowing three
hits.
Knits also hit a triple and a sin-
gle. Ted Hoffman doubled, and sin-
gles were chalked up by James
Rolph, Gavin Snell, Dale Hopf and
Maskell.
The Juveniles will engage the
Hanover Hurricanes in a best of
three playoff tournament for the
Western Ontario Baseball Associa-
tion (WOBA) Championship be-
fore starting their London District
Baseball Association Champion-
ship series.
Hanover will play the Juveniles
at home on Sunday August 13 for
a 3 pm game that will determine
the WOBA champions. This will be
a double header if necessary. Prior
to this game a special memorial
presentation will be conducted.
Coach Gary Hartman is confident
they will win against Hanover to
clinch the WOBA title.
"I'm expecting some good chanc-
es because we've beat this team
[Hanover] twice this year already,"
said Hartman. "We have an ex-
cellent defensive team but we'll
need some big offense."
Gavin Snell makes a catch behind the plate during an Exeter Juveniles baseball game
against Wyoming on Thursday.
Self defence
Lucan Karate School Sense' Dan Be!! and Leo Loucks held a Women and Teens
Self Defence Seminar on Saturday at the Lucan Legion. The seminar taught basic
self defence skills including how to fend off an attacker by putting him off
balance. Students were also taught how to break a hold and the most vulnerable
